Gord But petrol cost in USA lots cheaper :laugh:
Some states are still tax free on earnings also.

DaveEdin Interesting point I got from a senior insurance underwriter a few weeks back...
Apparently you legally only have to "declare your modifications at the point of renewal or inception of the policy" - modifications undertaken during the year do not have to be declared until the policy renewal comes around...
This was a bloke from Aviva, so he should know his stuff...
one of my workmates just had a new engine in his punto 1.2 and the garage could only source a 1.4 engine locally so soon so he took it and rang his insurers who said its fine, call back when its time to renew
i'm not sure who he's with, nor if that applies to all insurers or if in fact mr aviva chap is right and legally they only have to be told on renewal
but what happens if u modify, but have a bump before renewal and the insurers check the car? seems too easy for anyone with undeclared mods just to say i've recently fitted whatever and was going to declare at my next renewal

Obviously you should always just declare all mods but still it's handy to know you can leave it till you were renewing anyway...

I mentioned that to him, Rory, he said that when modifying keep any receipts etc to prove they were done after the policy began, but that it was something they had to watch out for...

Yep but if you're in a bad smash bang, I doubt you'll have the chance to remove your charger before an investigator turns up. I think that's the main point as well as insuring a fiesta 1.1 as standard when in fact its got a small block hemi under the hood means the premiums are just all wrong

I beleve you have to have residence in the country you are insuring the car, or the car is registered in that country.
Cover for other eu countries is limited to a month or so at any one time, or something like that.
