Hi, is there anyone here replaced their 6x9 parcel shelf speakers? If so could you tell me how difficult was it and is it worth doing it, e.g. do you hear much of a difference.
I am thinking of getting some more powerful 6x9's and running them off an amp along with a sub.

If we're talking about the IS200/300 I'd say no, it's not worthwhile without changing the headunit too.

The stock amp has a 2ohm feed for the 'bass' part of each speaker and a separate 4ohm feed for the mid range. Stick a new 6x9 in I think they will sound rather flat if you put them on the 4ohm feed, and if you put them on the 2ohm feed you probably will loose a lot of clarity.

...at least this is how I understand it...

Hey mate.

Any decent 6 x 9's will do (so long as they are amplified) but make sure you get some 12mm MDF spacers to clear the boot lid.

Not sure about sub as well...are you going for SQ or Loudness?

If you want good quality, get a pair of decent components up front to compliment your rear 6 x 9's. Set the rear eq to 100hz so the 6 x 9s becomes in effect sub woofers and the components up front do their thing.

You might not want a sub after that. Big Grin

basically get some 12mm mdf,

cut round the lexus speaker, then cut a hole in the middlle to fit your 6x9.

Ha ha. there are loads of 6 x 9's under £10 on eBay that are worth a punt. I am also looking but my priority so far is my exhaust system. I will tackle the ICE next month...and the Piggy Back ECU the month after next.

Get rid of the 6x9's and install a decent set of amplified components in the front, and a sub in the boot. this set-up sounds the best by a LONG way. You can then keep OEM head-unit if you want.

I have already got a different headunit, its decent!
I feel to change the 6x9's running off an amp and go without a sub and see how it goes, because the extra boot space will come in handy when im travelling far with friends etc.
Ive got my eyes on some Hertz 6x9's, yet to decide on an amp tho, trying to keep this under £200 for the amp and speakers. Might upgrade the tweeters in the future also.
