Hi guys, I know my clutch is on the way out and I do have a new one to replace it. I just wanted to know would my slipping clutch cause mileage to be worse than usual? I did just over 200 miles and it cost me around £45. Now I dont know if this is normal because this is the first time ive driven the car, but would be thankful if anyone knows.
Thanks

yea for sure slipping clutch will adversely affect MPG.

If you are putting your foot down, and the engine is revving, but not pulling you forwards, you are certainly wasting fuel. IS200s are not known for their impressive MPG, although when driven sensibly, it's not that bad either. There are a couple of MPG threads on here where everyone compares readings. However your figures give around 26mpg, which is about what I'd expect if driving 'enthusiastically' most of the time, (with a good clutch.) I get about the same from my tuned 1.6 Pug when I am 'enthusiastic' with it. Though 30-40mpg should be easily achieved with a good clutch and a light foot. (In either car!)

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

30-40 in an IS? Bit optimistic I'd say, I manage 26 mpg at best and I'm not a mad fast driver (ormi reckons I drive like a granny to be honest)

IS200 Sport - Sold
Mazda 6 MPS - Zoom Zoom!

Modifications
Completed:

Currently 280bhp/295lbft; 3" Meercat custom exhaust; KW Suspension; FMIC; SSP; HPFP; Custom Stainless Steel Dials - for the moment, the only set in the world!! (Till the group buy for MPSOC anyway  )

In Progress:

E-Tuning remap ongoing via Cobb Accessport; Braided brake lines; Stubby aerial; Tinted repeaters and sidelights; 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid; 3" HTP Intake

Ok, so 40 may be optimistic! But I remember clocking up to 35 when really trying hard to maximise mileage and that was with a charger!

I was driving an average 70mph, and that was steady, the only time i put more pedal to metal is when I was coming towards a hill.
I had trouble in the lanes, in 2nd gear the car would not go up this steap hill, so had to put it into first and ease it up because if I put my foot down too hard it would rev more than pull.

Once you have spun the clutch like that a few times it will glaze over and become worse ans worst until one day you get in and not thing happens. Worst case is it can damage your fly wheel also so best swap it sooner then later.
