Squeaky clutch - More of an annoyance than real problem
Heater Matrix - Check the heater works properly
Seat Pins - Check both seats slide backwards/forwards
Grinding Gearbox/Clutch - Again more of an annoyance than real problem

Possibly more but nothing major really, just make sure you test drive it and that lift is engaging after 6,000rpm. Other than that make sure its got service history

We have the first two.

Heater matrix makes a little clicking noise, a tap sorts this out.

Squeaky clutch for us is only at low revs under labour.

Heater matrix on ours is when the heater packs up completely! lol

On earlier cars the heater matrixes are prone to clogging up, can be flushed out but will happen again, newer units don't clog

Squeaky clutch is to do with the master cylinder, doesn't affect operation, just squeaks when you press the pedal. Lubricating somewhere (can't remember where) gets rid of it

The seat pins are broke on my passenger seat so it wont slide backwards/forwards. Apparently its a ******* to sort out

Grinding gearbox/clutch is a weird one, 10 years after the car was first produced no ones still sure what causes it. Never heard of any failures relating to it though

One last thing, make sure the bulbs work in the headlamps as its a bumper off job apparently  (not happened to me yet)

Do they suffer from the same problems as the Celica 190 (I know it's the same engine but they're newer) with oil pumps and lift bolts? Or the 1ZZ precat problem?

To my knowledge the oil pump issue related to people miss shifting and putting 10k+ on the motor which destroys the oil pump starving the engine of oil.

Lift bolts are an issue on pre 2003 (late) as they have the older bolt types which do tend to snap. Newer cars have the revised bolts which don't wear as quickly but they still need to changed every now and again

reidy Squeaky clutch - More of an annoyance than real problem
Heater Matrix - Check the heater works properly

The heater matrix issue has the symptoms of a blocked matrix, what the problem is and this seems strange, for some reason the coolant leaves a very chalky white deposit within the cooling system once the system has aged by 6yrs or older,
This deposit once attached to the matrix inner surface acts a a very good insulator of heat, you can have 80-90degree heat flowing through the matrix but the deposit has insulated it and has not allowed any heat transfer. This drastically affects heat output.
Only seems to affect the Corolla E12 unless other members have heard of the same scenario.
Sometimes if you remove your radiator filler cap and peer inside the filler neck, on older cars you may see this deposit and the seat and filler neck.
Needs a good back flush and some additives, but that will be for another walk thro
