Samsung Galaxy SII
Samsung Galaxy SII
Finally got one of these on upgrade last week so thought I'd offer up my initial thoughts. Overall there are a lot of similarities to the Galaxy S it replaces, but it's just like everything has been improved.
Biggest surprise to me is the fact that despite the larger screen (4.3" vs. 4") it's barely any bigger than the S, and is actually quite a chunk thinner and lighter too.
To be honest the Galaxy S performs very well, but this just feels so much smoother thanks to the dual core processor, and touchwiz has definitely been improved, although I'm not sure I'll be sticking with it and will probably swap to launcher pro again. There's a smoothness and reliability that hasn't always been there with android in the past, it now feels really complete.
Another surprise is the magic they've worked with the battery, despite the extra power the battery lasts a lot longer - even with pretty heavy use it is easily lasting a day, which wasn't always the case with the S.
Not really sure what else to add at this stage as I think the phones are quite similar, anyone with any questions feel free to ask! It amazes me to see where android has come from to where it is now, and to me this is now head and shoulders over the iPhone - just my opinion but the fact that engadget agrees (who are heavily apple biased) is about all the proof you need.
Really looking forward to what the iPhone 5 will bring as it will need to be a significant step to catch up..........
I've had one of these since launch week. If you know how (it's not that hard) they can be rooted, and overclocked to 1.5Ghz. They can go higher, but 1.5 is fully stable and 100% reliable. The CPU, GPU and screen surpass all the competition (and that's not just my opinion, it's all backed up by numbers!)
It is epic at almost everything, and no other phone can touch it at the moment, not even the new HTC Sensation, though it comes closer than any others do. I doubt iPhone5 will be up to the spec of these, and with no confirmed launch date, most experts say it won't be out for another year anyway. By which time Galaxy S 3 or 4 will probably be ruling.
Might look into that but must admit I'm not sure it even needs to be any quicker! The speed is amazing, it really is completely lag free. I had a play with a sensation and I wasn't that impressed, I didn't like the way it looks for starters, the screen looks really dull in comparison and it was a bit sluggish at times.
Perhaps with a bit of overclocking it might be a better competitor but straight out of the box it is nothing like the SII.
Been wanting one of these for ages since selling the S, due to financial difficulties, just cant afford it on cash and no contracts, as already got one from the Galaxy S when i bought that.
Oh well ! one quick question, the video is 1080p recording can you laptop handle it?
Mine just manages with 1080p downloads.
Haven't tried it actually, but one thing I have tried is that the phone itself can play 1080p video I've downloaded without any issues so I'd be surprised if my newer computers can't - I know my macbook can play downloaded 1080p fine, but haven't tried a video off the phone. Will check it out and get back to you
Ordered my Dad's one whilst in hospital today, so that's gonna be here Friday!
I'm edging myself away from iPhone again and looking to the Motorola Atrix 4G?
Fry-Up also does it have image stability on the video recorder? There's an "anti-shake" setting for photos, but not for video so not sure it has it.
Dark Samurai Ordered my Dad's one whilst in hospital today, so that's gonna be here Friday!May as well have a go on both if you're going to anyway, but from everything I've read the SII is quite superior to the Atrix - the Atrix supposedly has brilliant battery life (even better than the SII) and the funky fingerprint scanner, but other than that I think the SII wins in every area.
