helllo ppl......quick question but supercharger clutches on my 200sx:thumbup:

i am building a bypass out of an old throttle body (diesel prob) blah blah, i'm planning on running the s/c first (before the turbo) and bypassing mechanically when the turbo hits boost (think vw twincharged tsi), so nice and easy

I want to use an electromagnetic clutch on an m45 s/c, does anyone have any experience with these clutches? specifically i want the clutch to disengage when the bypass valve opens, the bypass will be mechanical (like a wastegate), so the question is how to convert that system, (neumatic) into an electrical signal, that will control the clutch (i cant find electronic operation specs/methods on-line yet and am not fully aware of how it is controlled )

basicly i dont want it running/spinning while the by-pass valve is open (for clear reasons). i plan on having a switchable over ride to engage the s/c (with auto by-pass valve), or dissengage and open the by-pass as and when i want, so an ecomeny mode almost (or, when turned off, just turbo driven with plenty of lag, and economy on gently throttle lol! )

has anyone got any experiance or knoledge in these systems, any help, even theory would be appreciated, and digested!

thanks ppl............................ (oh yea, CA18DET)

i think patrick (p.lindholm) will be your man to speak to about this im sure he set up a similar sort of clutch for his charger so he can turn it off when sitting in traffic. not sure if anyone else has copied him yet, but there is at least one person about that can help you with this. welcome to the club

Sorry, I cannot be of much help. But I do love the idea! I know Patrick (username P.Lindholm on here) was running a switchable clutch on his TTE Supercharged IS200, but have no experience with them myself.

The only thing I could think of would be to have some metal part of the by-pass system wired into the clutch control circuit, so as it made a connection to complete (or break, depending on configuration) the circuit to disengage the clutch when it opened?

EDIT: Beat me to it Dino!

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

cheers guys,

yea i may message him to find out how he did it, thanks!

tbh that was my contingency plan anyway, contact style switch on the valve itself. not ideal but at least it would ease the manual switch installation, i was thinking of using a throttle cable still, but going to my redundant bonnet lever, i love retrofitting like that lol!

are most people on here lexus nuts then Cool

thats what they put these things in for so we can change them Smile
there are a fair few of us lexus owners on here, OJC was created and branched off from the other lexus forum LOC, so alot of the members after being banned for silly reasons by LOC came started and joined whats probably now one of the best jap clubs we know today OJC, many of our members still visit the LOC site but all the good stuff is found in here, over the past year and half, nearly 2 years the club has taken off and continues to get better and the garage isnt so full of lexi's no more got a nice range of jap metal Smile

what about using a heat resistant microswitch connected to the mechanical side so whent he door opens it its the microswitch and voila electrical override in place
