DIY Supercharger Issue
DIY Supercharger Issue
Hey guys,
having a little problem, hopefully someone can help?
Ive done a DIY supercharger conversion on my IS200 - got an M62 supercharger from a merc SLK230, made my own cradle, decat manifold, HKS FCD, HKS SSQV BOV, Tims Boost Gauge, Merc SLK230 water pump pulley, PK5 788 belt, eBay intercooler and eBay pipes etc. Its only cost me about a quarter of what the TTE kit costs second hand so i'm happy!
Anyway, the problem I'm having, from cold its running fine - supercharger is switching the electronic clutch via a microswitch on the throttlebody and the power is there when needed. When the engine/engine bay gets warm, the engine 'splutters' at around 3k rpm - with and without the Supercharger engaged (via electronic clutch). The FCD is set to 10 at the moment ( I seem to have an early FCD which doesn't have any numbers on, so I can only assume it is set to 10)
I'm assuming (At The Moment) that the intake air is too warm, and the ECU is having a fit? Tomorrow Im am going to connect via OBD2 to see what the intake temperature is running at!. I'll report what I find. I havent got any heat sheilds on the exhaust manifold, but I have heat wrapped it. I will be putting a heat sheild on tomorrow to see if this helps.
If anyone else can think of any possible problems, please feel free to let me know. I needs to try and get these issues ironed out before Trax next weekend!
May be a silly q but is the fcd working? Or wired in right?
Would seem to me to be the issue.
Ps what's the boost like? What boost does it run?
Wow thats sound like you put a lot of effort into to set up, ive got the TTE only had for a week so i dont really have any advice but would like to see some pics of your set up. altho i have heard the fcd can run lumpy at low rpm or something, someone will have more info.
Yeah the fcd's aren't ideal to be honest. I think it's a legacy of 'they worked on x car so they will work on a, b, and c as well.
The greddy bcc is far better if a little rarer.
Sparkystav May be a silly q but is the fcd working? Or wired in right?

All sounds right mate. Could be the fcd itself then maybe?
You could be best contacting patrik on here as he is making some tte black box replacements. I've got the diagram I made myself but never made one yet.
Is the camcon wired through the same wire I can't remember. May need adjusting now with extra boost.
i might take the FCD off my bros 200SX and see if that works? My FCD seems to be an older one, square metal case, rather than the newer plastic rounder case? i dont know if thats makes a difference
I still think it is the Intake temperature causing problems, but I wont know till tomorrow - or does this sound like a far fetched scenario?
