Sparkystav I must say i agree with Marcus.

a 10W is better for this country.

I am afraid I disagree.

10w is adaquate in the UK but 5w is better, the reason it is better is because it flows better from cold (you dont have to be at -20 to take advantage of its cold flow properties) as 90% of your engine wear occurs on startup this is a good thing.

I would say the tappety noise is not coming from the fact its a 5w-40, more what 5w-40 is it? As they come in all different qualities and if it is a cheapie then it is likely to be noisy as low quality synthetics are no better then low quality semi or mineral oils.

Cheers

I'm running 5W-30 and my engine doesn't sound the least bit tappety. It's a decent oil though, Fuchs Titan.

Same here, I'm using 5w-30 Gulf oil (supplied by Opie Oils). Mines done 125k and I thought I would need to use an engine oil which is marketed as "suitable for high mileage engines", but Opie oils have advised me that 5w-30 oil is ok to use even though my car has done so many miles.

Mods:...WIM geometry setup & fine tune, K&N Air filter, Stainless steel A/C rings, Brodit phone kit, Stainless steel clock surround, B&M Shortshifter & LED Domelight, Maplight & Sun Visors, OEM Chrome exhaust tip, OEM rubber bootliner, Fan type windscreen washer jets, LS430 Side repeaters, OEM LE grille, OEM cargo net, Front OEM armrest

Thats correct, remember your engines are jap and this means they are well made and well designed. Unless the engine is in a state there is not need to go thicker.

Yeah but if you go down that route, we could say it's wrong to mod the car in any way, after all the way it came from the factory is the "right" spec, surely ? :tongue_smilie:

no! as to do a mod, is not going to upset the way the engine runs aless you do engine mods, Wink

look at the end off the day you put what you want to in your engine, but i will not tell anyone to put something in there engine if its not the right item Wink:tongue_smilie:
