ormi So we're not doing your charger at jae?need to know so I can bring tools..
I'll just bring the tools I think it'll need mate and any mores a bonus...got my impact gun etc to bring...
Right. Well I have bought some wobbly socket extensions as per the suggestion of Birthday Boy, my tool kit is growing by the day at the moment, so wish me luck...
I was going to fit the FMIC before JAE, but I want to use pipe couplings that I will buy there. I think with a car on stock Sport suspension I can get the undertray and bumper off easy enough without the need for a jack, so may leave it until then, and concentrate on getting everything cleaned up and painted, and the charger serviced and reassembled - just bought sealant and oil etc.
Also, I can strip other parts that need modding to fit, such as the fan housing, undertray, manifold heat shield and engine covers, and use the ones from the old car, which should speed up the fitting.
problem is the drilling holes for the intercooler to fit, do we have a drill and some decent bits?
I can bring a cordless and/or main drill and bits. Though I still may get around to doing beforehand. Though won't be able to do anything if I can't get the cradle and pulley off!!!
Right. So I now have the cradle very very nearly off, with the most troublesome bolts seen to. Will go back tomorrow with even more tools! The pulley should be easy once the rad is out too. So hopefully I have the entire kit ready to be fitted. Well, ready once the charger is reassembled, re-oiled, and painted black, along with all of the pipework and intercooler, including the bits I'm waiting to get back from Bounty! The misses is away, so the living room looks like a workshop. Just taken a break now, as I think I may have inhaled too much brake cleaner!
Thinking about other bits I might need, can anyone recommend a good (but also cheap!) oil catch can, there are a few on ebay, and I'm trying to decide between black and chrome! Also need it delivered before Friday, and ideally with hose, breather filter and fixing kit!
On the off chance... does anyone fancy a BOV swap? I have a brand new HKS SSQV version 3, but want a Limited Edition black one!
ARRRRRRRRGG!!!! This is really winding me up now. It's one problem after another with this!
Finally got the rad out, which was not easy due to very bent front of car. I can't turn the pulley bolts though, it just turns the engine! Gonna go back with some WD40 and a longer wrench and try again though.
Though I have now also got the snapped off end of an allen key stuck in this bolt, and have no idea how to get it out. I could try drilling, but even if I get the bit out, I will ruin the bolt, which is very tightly in place, and so won't be able to get the bits apart! Maybe grind it off? Though I don't have an angle grinder, and that may still leave the parts bolted together!
For the stuck bolt. Can you get a set of mole grips on the bolt instead?
For the pulley. Keep shocking the bolt. Instead of pushing just keep shocking the ratchet with a hammer. That's how a impact wrench works.
That could be a good buy though. Ive got a 12v impact wrench. Attaches to a car battery.
what to do is get a hammer and hit the top of the bolt with the allen key stuck in it hard that should frree off the stuck bit then a magnet will remove it...
as for the rad out i dont understand why??put the car in gear and leave the hand brake on the engine will lock the pulley then the bolt will break away..
Thanks for the tips lads. Going to buy some mole grips in a minute and hope for the best. The bit of the allen key that is snapped and stuck is the wobbly end of the set you advised me to buy Ormi, so if I really can't get it out, I'm gonna blame you, as it stuck in there pretty good!
The pulley I should be able to manage, gonna soak in WD40, give it a few smacks, and use a longer wrench! The rad was not in it's original position due to front end impact, hence it needed removing and why the removal was not as straight forward as normal.
Wish me luck...
