My neighbour has an Alfa GTV, 52 plate.

She recently went on holiday and thought while she was away she would have her car MOT'd. So, if it required any work, she could have it all sorted and come back to the car ready to roll.

The garage she used, failed it on a few minor items and said she needed several bushes, seals etc replaced underneath on the suspension primarily. One particular part sadly had to have an entire section replaced because Alfa only sold it that way Huh
They quoted her £2495 all in..Confusedhock:

THANKFULLY..she declined and said return the car home and she would sort it upon her return.

Today, I took her car for another MOT at a garage i know.. it cost £55 and passed with a couple of adviseries.....

This just goes to show how some garages are activily trying to litterally ROB some people :cursing:
I'm seriously considering going there and asking them to explain the failed MOT and quote, but I know I will end up decking some idiot out of sheer anger

Maybe they should be reported if you can prove any of the items were not as reported.

Complain to VOSA- part of the Dept for Transport - you can report the original MOT testers for failing unnessecarily(sp).

I've always been told to use coucil run MOT stations as they dont do repairs and as such, are unlikely to recommend repairs.

That said, if you get your car MOT'd at the dealers they are more than likely going to recommend doing all the work that needs doing, regardless.

Hope that makes sense, just in the middle of getting the kids tea done!

The issue I have with the MOT is many pass/fails are in the opinion of the individual inspector - not black and white.

totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

Be careful you don't get the reverse outcome, VOSA look at the car and agree to some faults/failures and penalise your friendly MOT station
