I heard about that. Pretty bad, apparently.

Even more scary, I just realised I was on the M5 at about 8:30 last night , when it happened! Was very foggy. Though it was J23-26 affected (and still closed now!) and I only got on at J29 and headed in the opposite direction, so wasn't too close to the danger, but still.... ****!!!

no doubt caused by people driving too close to each other, people braking when the fog came down, brakes on and then people running into the back.

That is how these things happen. Just highlights the dangers of driving these conditions. Last I heard it was something like 27 vehicles, including 6 HGVs, 7 confirmed dead, (though some reports say it could be as many as 16 dead!) and 50+ hospitalised with injuries. NASTY!!!

HGV's and cars=carnage. pun not intended.

Getting hit with anything weighing up to 44 tonnes it does not surprise me that there were cars in flames.

People still need to learn to adapt to the road and weather conditions.

Sad so many people have been killed.Confusedad:

They were saying things may have been made worse by smoke drifting accross from a nearby firework display too.

But I agree that it was probably inadequate space left between cars and then the ripple effect from the first persons brake lights that caused it.

Or it could have been something unavoidable like a blowout that started it off, who knows.

latest reports state 7 dead and 51 injured.

Just horrific.

I remember a massive pile up in the 80's near Oxford, early morning traffic on the M40 and fog, similar situation.

Don't believe that rubbish about smoke from the Fireworks, that part of the M5 is always foggy this time of the year.

This was either a driver not paying attention or a general accident i.e vehicle failure.

I just think its funny that people at the moment are more concerned with blaming someone for what happened then getting this sorted out.

What a joke.
