toxo Where has anyone said that is the plan?

Correct all the new regs say is "If your car is modified you better make darn well sure its safely done - or its off the road"

"Life's goal is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body. But, rather to skid in sideways........
totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

I meant more if this does evolve into a crack down on modified cars. I don't see the problem with rigorous tests on modified cars, it does **** me off that you will need a cat even if your car passes emissions though. I just hope it's not a leg up for something a bit more invasive.

Nowhere... But the changes noted above do look like they will hinder casual modifiers, John. If that continues, who knows where it might lead?

IS200 Sport - Sold
Mazda 6 MPS - Zoom Zoom!

Modifications
Completed:

Currently 280bhp/295lbft; 3" Meercat custom exhaust; KW Suspension; FMIC; SSP; HPFP; Custom Stainless Steel Dials - for the moment, the only set in the world!! (Till the group buy for MPSOC anyway  )

In Progress:

E-Tuning remap ongoing via Cobb Accessport; Braided brake lines; Stubby aerial; Tinted repeaters and sidelights; 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid; 3" HTP Intake

Cat required cars don't really stand much of a chance to pass without one anyway.
Over here its a federal offence to remove a cat off your car, for the owner and the garage doing the removal. This is in a country where in most states its legal to drive with 0 tread wear left on your tyres.

Now I'm getting a little worried.

My MX5 has 50mm spacers and glass fibre arch extensions. I cut the front arches back and formed a new lip (Non structural so shouldn't be an issue), But on the back I just flared them as far as I could for the time being. I still don't have enough clearance on the rear arches to lower it as far as I want. I was going to trim them back, Form a new lip a couple of inches further out of the way, Add fresh metal where required and plug weld the outer arch to the stretched wheel tub (Plug welded so that I didn't overly strengthen the rear crumble zone. Then splatter the whole area with 1/2 inch thick of underseal so the MOTer can't see the lack of continuous weld around it).

Now it looks like that'll have me squealing like a lobster in hot water come MOT time.

I could pop my 25mm spacers back on to pass but that would still mean that I couldn't do the rear arches properly and drop my '5's belly to the tarmac.

The only other alternative could be possibly to anneal the original arches so I can stretch them even further, but I'm not really happy about the idea of softening bit's of a cars metalwork in the name of "Safety".

Anyway, All this talk of MOT's has got me thinking today would be a good time to go out and wire brush, treat and underseal the surface rust I spotted on the car's belly at the last MOT. I find my MOTer's less likely to prod at 6 month old underseal with road cr4p all over it than stuff that's still glossy and wet. :tongue_smilie:

Mr Reman Anyway, All this talk of MOT's has got me thinking today would be a good time to go out and wire brush, treat and underseal the surface rust I spotted on the car's belly at the last MOT.

CR4P !!!!

It seems that the "Surface rust" I saw 8 months ago has been quite busy since then.

I found 2 little holes about 3" apart........ But after some more prodding with a screwdriver I now only have one hole, But it's about 4" long.

Oh well, Looks like I'll need to break out my welder again to get next years ticket.:Sulk:

What are IS200's like for rust?

IS200's are good for rust, meaning its not an issue. I think they have galvanised shells that helps a lot.

Scotty an option if you are worried, is to get your Mazda mot tested before the new year, that way you have a years breathing space to sort it out or sell it on Wink
