am hoping to get my self a 4th gen prelude. an have been looking at a hell of alot of them. i did go see one last week which turned out the guy did not really own the car or have any paper work for it so i walked away. tho if it had been a legit sale i would of taken it but oh wel.

anyway to the point i am going to view one on Monday which has been offered to me in a swap for my current car (http://i1034.photobucket.com/albums/...c/DSC_0014.jpg).

this is what i have been offered

tho here are the bad points .....
handbrake cable needs replacing
rear calipers sticking
ABS light stays on
4 wheel steer light comes on and is apparently locked.

so what im asking is should i take up the offer or not ?

can you not get your hands on a reader before you go. this way you can fault read it and see if its an easy fix. the car looks well looked after so could just be error codes. but better to be safe then sorry. nice car the prelude.

I know nothing about the 4WS on these cars - the ABS could be related to so many things:
the rear callipers (as they are sticking)
could be a broken sensor,
a cut wire
A fault in the ABS pump - that would rob you blind for a replacement.
An OBD11 reading "may" help to locate the fault but no guarantee.

If it was me I would not take the offer there are 100's of these cars about so take your time to find a good one. A few £'s saved here could cost a lot more later on down the road.

to be honest dazols i wouldn't have a clue what each code meant if i could borrow one lol. the hand brake and sticky calipers dont bother me. never dose the abs light as that just prob a sensor as common fault on most old cars.

its the 4ws problem that worry's me, as i dont know anything about it. would it be expensive to sort out ? is it ok to lock it straight and keep driving it? (this is what i have been told has been done).

thanks for your input. tho most of these that i have looked at, all have some problems here and there. but with the age of the cars im looking at that is to be expected.

True, the older the car the more its going to need.

if the 4WS is a fault id walk away mate that would be an expensive fix to sort out i would think as its not really a uk spec part.

as Phil has said there is enough out there and yes each has problems but some are easier to sort then others.

how much is your car worth and how much is the prelude he might be trying to get a good deal rather then you just a thought
