Cam cover gasket
Cam cover gasket
Guys and gals, at some point I will be painting up the cam cover on the IS, but is it advisable to change the gasket at the same time?
If so - when refitting are there any specific things that need doing such as blobs of sealant in the corners etc?
When i changed mine to the polished rocker i did i never changed it? but recently i've noticed a little bit of oil starting to appear on the sides? so would recommend changing it mate?
iirc there are 11 10mm bolts holding the rocker cover in place, there's one right at the back of the engine, that you can't really see? pretty simple job to do though :thumbup1:
The gasket looks like it covers the whole area, so not 100% sure, but don't think you need to put any gasket seal anywhere? just have to make sure the surfaces are clean?
Thought as much mate. Of all the cars I have owned (and there have been a lot) I have only ever changed a cam cover gasket on an mx5!
That was simple enough, blobs of sealant on the corners and tighten the nuts in a sequence.
If its a rubber gasket then you shouldnt use any sealant, it can ruin the seal and cause it to leak. As Chris said, make sure all mating surfaces are spotless, lay the gasket on then the cover. Tighten the bolts gradually to allow even pressure throughout. Do not over tighten them either, this can cause the gasket to be pushed out of the way and make it leak.
