Sorry it has taken a while!

The Celica is a 2.0 GTi 16v.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

First thing to do is to give it a complete service. All fluids, all ignition components, all filters. Go OEM if you can stretch to it (finding someone with a Toyota trade discount will help). Admittedly mine was a turbo, but I gained 30 bhp through doing this on a 3S-GTE.

Most people start by giving the engine a good service and then either an exhaust or an induction kit.
I started with an exhaust. I found a 5zigen on ebay for less than £100.

I'd assume from its age that it's already had a replacement exhaust, OEM exhausts on those are mild steel and it's pretty old!

Edit: and DON'T decat it if it's got one (might not due to age)!!
