a MK4 LS400 might suit you. Plenty of power, LOADS of room in the back and it's an auto. 3K should get you a tidy one.

A supra is not your car if you have children Sad

With regard to auto I always swore I would never have one but my NA is pleasure to drive and you do get a thrill from the kick down.. My TT is .. as had been said.. an animal and you have to hold on tight, you can't free up a hand to change gear lol.. I don't know whether it's all bigger engine auto's that are this responsive but I am very happy with mine being auto and no-one is more surprised by that than me !

toxo The roof comes off the aerotop. Liftback is just the standard bodyshape. Aerotops are funny, in my opinion unless you like posing or pretending you're in the Fast and the Furious I'd give them a miss. It's a lot of extra money for a wobbly chassis, where the standard car is very stiff.

Tiptronic came in with the VVTi engine, 98 onwards, JDM only if my memory is working.

correcto....there were also no facelift UK Supra's UK ended start of 96 iirc prior to the facelift Smile

I'd rather not have an auto to be honest. I'd only consider one if it's on a really nice car. Such as a supra. The ls400 is a bit big and soft, same reason I think I haven't gone for a gs300/430. My budget is only really 2k.
I might go have a look at a supra, see if I can squeeze the kids in the back, it's a second car, as my wife-to-be has a fiesta that's fine for using when we go out all together. Might also get a test drive, see if I can get on with the auto-box.

James S We have three kids in the house, so are the extra seats ok for kids? Or is a soarer bigger in the back?
Would love an aristo, but they are too expensive. Been looking at gs300 or 430's too, but not sure at the min.

You have a bit of a physical problem here. You + wife-to-be + 3 kids is 5 people. Supras only have 4 seats. There is no middle rear seat, just a big lump for the transmission tunnel.

It also relies on the front seat people being short so the seat is forward or the rear seat people need to be legless .. Good job it's not the other way round or there would be a drink driving infringement ..

There's also a very common saying in the mkiv owners club that if you can just about afford to buy one you can't afford to run one - I can't fault mine for reliability but I will have to confess that the age of them results in a steady stream of maintenance requirements, not so bad if you can do a lot yourself but I have found times where I've done a batch of mechanical maintenance needs only to find I am back at basics like tyres and brakes! (tyres on both mine are around £300 a corner! Although my wheels aren't standard but with such a light back end, you cannot afford to skimp on rubber)
Be warned on a nice dry day, once you've felt the kick of a supra and the attention you get everywhere.. You will find yourself addicted and shell v-power your new drug Smile but still no good for children !

It's complicated, but basically I only ever need four seats in my car. If heather is with me, that means we can use her car. Which is the reason I am considering changing mine. As important for me to have a car with five seats.

Good advice there. My basic thinking on the supra was, it's only a couple of years older then mine. With my is200 being one of the first. As for maintenance I do most of that myself on my current car, and with it being a Toyota, I didn't think there would be much in it parts wise.
The kids are 8,9 and 13, so getting a bit bigger. What's the space like in a soarer? Smile
