Home multi room speaker setup
He sonos looks good but it's more a system to add to a house via wireless.
I'm after something wired where you can change the output from a single hub routed to each speaker.
have you had a look at xbmc ? i'm using openelec which is a more optimised version. with this solution you could have a central server and then have units in each room streaming the data. there is also the option to have database controlled, so if you pause in one room you can continue in another.
Hmm, not quite sure I understand that,
I use xbmc on my jail broken apple tv at the moment.
Proper wired systems are fairly expensive as far as I know, my brother's house has a QED system in it which does exactly what you're looking for (and I think it's quite simple as it's just a CAT5 cable that goes between each device) but I think it has a relatively heavy price tag on it.
I think something like what Rabs suggested (if it's more cost effective) might be the best option.
xbmc allows for a database to control the library in the background rather than have it sat locally. you then add a file to the distributed boxes that include the ip address of the database so its common to all of them.
