Cradle Measurements
as there wasnt enough interest in the prices that where coming up.
i have a machine shop that can produce it very easily for alot less. but either need one to copy or descent pictures to show them so they can have a good look at them

Stix has put it on hold as i read it the other day.

I wouldn't be so quick to say they can do it easily though. lol Nothing is level, it's all odd distance and angles. Cutting bar and welding is easy, but replicating a complicated framework like that would be very hard even with one to copy. Which is why no one has managed to do it before.

sprinter2012 But unless you have a degree in design and are proficient with something like AutoCad there's no way you'd be able to give accurate enough measurements/drawing to reproduce one from.
The tolerances here are virtually nil. You will need to get every piece, every join, every angle perfect in order to have the charger pulley line up 100% straight, and spin with no vibration. Stix had the right idea with the jig. Reproducing it to the correct accuracy with a few pics and a couple of measurements I would not have thought possible.

If I had a cradle available I would give it a shot. I work in a machine shop, i can weld, and I come from an engineering design background. All the right boxes ticked, but no cradle to work from

I still think the RAF guys may struggle without one to copy though, because they must be used to working from technical drawings etc. for something as complex as aircraft components. I'd hate to think they were making parts by eye. lol
The guy that does our CNC stuff could turn/cut/tap all the bar and profile the ends to the same diameter as the bar for a neat weld etc. and is capable of working to tolerances as small as 0.001mm but without a drawing he would tell me to **** off. haha

Well, I read today that one of the two guys who made their own is getting unacceptable vibration, and needs to revise their design. I do not know about the other guy, but this may also be the case for him. It can be done, but can it be done perfectly?
Why you should pay more for the cradle (with no moving parts) than the charger (a precision tuned bit of kit that spins at massive rpm) is simple: You are comparing a complex custom made piece of metalwork with a used engine part from a ten plus year old (usually scrapped) Merc!

That's pretty much my conclusion, out of the £2k that people sell the charger kits for, everything can be bought as an off the shelf part (intercooler, BOV, pipework, even the charger!) or made easily (pipework/flanges).
I still think the charger kit prices need to come down a lot before I'd consider buying one as they are a wearing item so they can't carry on being £2K forever.

ad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. ad:If we decide who is best equipped to reproduce a cradle (be it Sprinter, Hurricane, Pat, Swedish Pat or someone else), they are willing to put in the hours and I was somehow able to do without mine for a short period then a group buy could be on the cards. I know there was interest recently on Stix's thread (the main stumbling point being the cost, I think), and on this one too. Not sure I want to commit to it this minute, just thinking aloud really, but it could be an option worth discussing.
