Thank you......
Thank you......
To each and every one of you that have helped me in the past few weeks with this flaming android project. That includes Rabster, sparkystav, sprinter2012, Ian and i few others I've no doubt forgotten....
The good news is, after building a little circuit board for the capacitors and diodes today, it's in and working.
I've still got to put the starter wire from the ignition in (i thought i had got away with it but alas not. If i start it straight away then it's fine, but if i leave the ignition for a few seconds then it crashes, the starter wire mod will solve this)
Anyway, a quick vid, and Thanks once again to everyone
edit - ignore that, looks like a glitch.
That's really really smooth! I like it!

does look smart mate! ive often thought about a screen in the car, but prefer my gauges now lol
Looks pretty sweet there! Me likey... I take it you plan to disable the lockscreen in Android so that the tablet starts directly onto the homescreen? I believe there are a few apps that can manage this...
I have a had a quick look Dave, the ones i found didn't work though, i think they were for the pattern lock? I'll have another look, although to be honest, i've got startup manager booting it straight to the nav software at the mo so it's not a massive issue.
Ok, the parts list (or what i can remember of it!) Also, any links here could be dead in the future:
The screen motor and housing.
We all know how much these are but i got a bit of a deal from a breaker who i convinced it was no good for anything. £100
The tablet itself
I used a Witstech A81E (as said, it was 7 inch and had the built in gps) £50
Double sided sticky foam (for round the screen) 99p

12v to 5v Converter £9.99

Timer relay (to trick the tablet to think the power button is being held on) £14.99

3 membrane buttons and connectors needed to deal with the menu, settings and home buttons - £14

I also used 2 2200uf capacitors and 2 1N5820 diodes and a bit of bread board for mounting the, along with a 4 pin relay, a single external speaker about £20
That's the major bits that i can think of, you'll also need a low temp soldering iron, solder, a dremel, and i used an angle grinder for the metal casing because the screen was too big to rotate without removing some of it, masses of various wire and patience! I have no understanding of the theory of electronics and still managed it using this guide i found (translate in google chrome)

I hope that helps people, I'm always up for helping other if i can and if anyone finds a good app for the car, let me know! ;-)
You're welcome The video won't load in Google Chrome on my home computer so I'll have to try at work tomorrow, glad you got it all finished!
