LCD wise the Samsungs are stunning, probably the best ones to go for. And as Rabs suggested run a cable from every input on the TV to wherever you're going to put the stuff so you're covered - although are you going to have your DVD player, etc all up in the loft?

If the fire will be putting a lot of heat out upwards then I personally would want to look at some kind of heat shield to direct heat away from the TV, if most of it should be coming forwards I think you'll be fine.

thinking about this fire issue have you thought about a LED projector something like a casio maybe we have strated using them at work the technology has come a long way now
I was looking at TVs a few months back and narrowed it down to Samsungs, 5800 series I think. +1 for John Lewis, you pay maybe 5-10% more but you get a no questions asked warranty for 5 years (which would cost you more than the difference in price). I've always bought my TVs from there for this reason. That plus you can go and look at them all together in one place.

Tonight is the first time I've seen my new fire working and to be honest I dont think the heat is going to be a problem for the TV.
I also want to get my sky in my bedroom using the magic eye thing , but can you have two separate ones ?? And can you also connect a hard drive / media player and have it with the rest of the gubbins and still work on both TVs ? also how discreet can the surround sound be , because I dont want to see lots of speakers in my living room.

As far as the speakers are concerned, it depends how much you want to pay! You could get them fitted into the walls/ceilings if you wanted, that would be discrete but very expensive.
Some older sky boxes support multiple magic eyes but the majority will only run one. They can carry any video signal (but it's only composite so it looks shite - definitely no HD!!) but can only remotely control a Sky box.

Projectors are getting smaller and if it's led the. There is no serious fan noise to worry about if you are skill full enough you could make it flat on the ceiling and allow for keystone to correct the angle to make the image this would also allow you to have the image rather BIG lol

Saw THESE at a show recently if you really want the speakers to be invisible - surprisingly good given that they are plastered into the wall or ceiling.

OK at the moment I'm thinking about a Samsung smart LED TV , so if I'm going to be running cables from the TV to a cupboard in the hall , not going for up in the loft now, do they connect into a box then you plug your stuff into that or are they just loose ?And where do you get said cables "HDMI etc etc " from and can you get them in any length you need ? The other problem is what toxo said about only being able to use one magic eye , whats the fix for that ??
