Ok, have an Evo 7 with full Evo 8 engine conversion...

The car has had a decat pipe fitted which does cause the managment light to come on as a result, a pain , but still searching for an answer on that.

However, it also has a Turbo Smart BOV which seems to be causing hassle and on occasions making the engine now stall.

So, i have now been told, that that BOV is only really for cars running 500bhp and this is only 390bhp....

So what BOV would you reccomend if the Turbo Smart is actually the problem in the first place..

I don't think that, the BOV being rated for 500bhp, would make a difference if it was running 200bhp or 700bhp really...
I think it'd bring the engine management light on due to fuelling problems, o2/lambda sensors?
BOV's, I reckon a GReddy bov, they seem to be fairly good

saying that a dumpvalve is for a certain amount of bhp is utter tat mate, whoever told you that is talking out their bottom.

Dumpvalves have springs basically which release at certain pressures past the springs

HKS ones seem to be responsive to both low boost but dont leak under high boost.

Now we run a rediculously strong spring on my brothers Forge motorsport dv on his GTFour and it barely ever dumps unless we go past 1.4bar boost.

The dv dumps on boost, and shouldnt in theory cause issues, i used to hear that on 185's an atomospheric dv cause issues with the maf sensor causing the engine havoc due to the air being released rather from the system but that shouldnt happen on a Evo, least of all one that in theory should of been mapped so no in short, the dv is not your problem.

Unless there is an air leak?

I assume the DV is the red split one? if so it could be that it does dump partly to atosphere and partly recircs?
If so Dales right with ti messing with the MAF as the car is on standard ECU i assume?

My question would be whether the EVO is MAF or MAP. If it's MAF, it would explain stalling/missing on the valve dumping, AND the engine warning light, due to losing metered air. (Basically what dale said)

That said, I would expect a forced induction engine the age of an Evo 8 to be MAP.

30 seconds googling tells me that Evo 8 engines are MAF, so your dump valve is creating a boost leak when it dumps. Bin it and put the stock recirculating valve back on.
