Is200 vs is300
full electric leather inteior, cuise control, semi auto gear box, lsd, the magic dimming rear mirrors...
cant think of any thing else at the moment if there are any more.
If you want to modify the car to extract more power out of it, get an IS300. There are very few add on parts you can buy for the IS200 aside from the (very overpriced) TTE supercharger kit that don't involve rafts of custom fabrication and work whereas people in the states have been making tuning parts for the IS300 for donkeys years, partly because it uses an engine that's available in many other Toyotas.
Plus you're starting with nearly 100bhp more. Financially, tuning an IS200 doesn't make sense (mind you, does tuning any car make sense financially? lol)

not particullary as im finding out its getting expensive lol, the standard pistons are high compression 10.1:1 if boosting then you should be aiming for around 8.5:1 compression ratio, theres a few ways to lower it, you could just replace the headgasket cost around £200ish, or use gte pistons from a supra engine second hand around £300-400ish, or go after market rods and pistons that are £700-£2000 depending on make.
but running low boost a thicker headgasket should be ok, go high boost then id advise doing pistons rods and gasket, then you may as well put new bearings in anoth £100ish quid, then arp bolts to keep it together, that will give you a strong short block, then you could improve the head, by upgrading the springs valves retainers that little lot could easily cost an extra 700ish quid, the cam gears £500 for the 2 rods, an extra £150 for the gears, and that would have you one very stong engine, the only problem then would be the ammount of power the gearbox can handle so a getrag v160 or v161 second hand £1000+ or brandnew £4000ish+ then labour costs if someones building it for you, it would also if you go this far a standalone ecu at another £1000+ and then it would need mapping.
this is a built to the max engine though and should be good for 600+bhp depending on turbo set up. all depends on how much power you wantr and the money you have available.
so as you can see its not cheap and not the easiest of projects, but its fun to learn
