sat nav build
sat nav build
well the other weekend i decided to have a go at building my sat nav unit
so where to start,
first off we ripped the 7" housing (which was an ebay bargain) to pieces
then we test fitted the sat nav unit, which was another ebay bargain, but hit a couple of problems straight away
1. although the sat nav was a nice snug fit, the power lead plugged in at the side. and there was no room to plug it in whilst inside the housing
2. the sat nav wouldnt just power up when the ignition was turned on, it had to be manually turned on each time
so to get around these issues we decided what hell just rip the sat nav to bits and have a play with it.
so after a bit of tinkering and wiring we managed to solder in a couple of wires onto the power switch so that when the open and close button is pressed the sat nav will turn on
sat nav in bits
power on switch
checking wires which were added
nice snug fit
wiring to open close switch
all put back together and checked
fitted and checked again
and whilst the car was in pieces we also fitted my parrot handsfree kit and modified the cigarette lighter socket so that it is now a usb socket for the phone kit
a big thanks to mattlaw for helping with the project
iv had it in the car for a week now, it has speed camera detection, built in flash player so it will play films, and will even broadcast the directionsonto an fm radio station, it will even take a reverse camera although it will need to be stripped down and a usb cable fitted. overall a great bit of kit for not to much cash
Looks great mate. Good work on the satnav.
nice work.....but do you know their is wee lights on the sat navs opening/tilting buttons.im going to wire mine in one day lol
Its the connection next to the permanent battery connection on the rear plug
you mat also need to ground pin 22, from the earth across miss 2 then connect to the next one
