have an oportunity to buy a forester its a 2001 automatic with 125K miles.
it has the 177ps engine.

i couldnt find any decent buyers guides - anyone know of some sites with some info on things to look for ?

Head gasket on the left bank worth checking, something to do with heat soak? But not a common failure point.

Very reliable and robust cars - will easily cope with anything you want to throw at it. I drove one through axle deep mud (with snow/mus tyres) and it coped perfectly well.

The head gaskets were improved by 2001 weren't they? It's the mid 90s ones that have HG issues.
