Hi All I just received a brand new Bluetooth OBDII interface "Doo-hicky", which started off as a disappointment firstly because i ordered the USB cable one not the "Blueteeth" version, secondly when having a look on the "torque webpage it says you can use them but they are the most unreliable dongles available - "generally alright but some can suffer from build quality issues affecting reliability, and causing strange things to happen like engines refusing to start. Try to avoid if you can".

I would like to find out from those of you with similar "Doo-hicky's" whether or not they have "bricked" you ecu or not and how successful you have been using these "Doo-hicky's".

Here's a picture of the one that i have:

You won't brick your ECU from it. It will just be a bit slow and not always make the connection to the ECU.

If it's not what you ordered, send it back! No point in having to work around somebody else's mistake.

Thats the same adaptor I use £14 from ebay.

Mines works spot on and does what it says on the tin.
I use torque pro and its a very good app, it can even read a pending or live fault code as you drive, it uses text to speech and then verbally tells you the code and best of all it deletes/clears the code as you drive so you never actually see the mil light illuminate or the car never goes into limp mode.

1990 Eunos Roadster in Mariner DU blue
Cobalt cat back, Decat pipe, 15in Red Rota GT3 alloys, Toyo tyres, Lowered on Coil overs, Red anti roll bars, 14degree timing mod, white dash kit, illuminated side marker lights,
Halo ring headlights, OEM windblocker, Bluetooth streaming HU, Blue leather handbrake and gear lever gaitor, Centre brake/tail light mod, Blue velour door cards, Polished cam cover, Polished front strut bar, 4xheadrest speakers, JDM floor mats, Suede semi dish steering wheel,

Ian spent a lot of time swearing about those adaptors when he was writing Torque... they are very variable. Some of them work 'ok' and some of them don't. Quality control / build quality is not great.

Well i've sent a message to them, waiting to see what they say about it, i'm not keen on spending my hard earned cash mailing the thing back, but if they ask me to send the thing back i just hope it gets to them quickly.

I had bad luck with the cheap adapter I got off Ebay as well, but spending a little extra on a plx kiwi adapter solved all the problems and now Torque runs without any issues.

Phil you were luckier than me

IS200 Sport - Sold
Mazda 6 MPS - Zoom Zoom!

Modifications
Completed:

Currently 280bhp/295lbft; 3" Meercat custom exhaust; KW Suspension; FMIC; SSP; HPFP; Custom Stainless Steel Dials - for the moment, the only set in the world!! (Till the group buy for MPSOC anyway  )

In Progress:

E-Tuning remap ongoing via Cobb Accessport; Braided brake lines; Stubby aerial; Tinted repeaters and sidelights; 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid; 3" HTP Intake
