Hi every1, this is actually my first post. I'm Steve, 27 from Reading (Berkshire)

I'v always been a fan of jap motors. I have owned for 6 1/2 years a 1995 celica GT ukspec. Been thinking of selling etc for something new, then som1 hit and run while it was parked outside at 1am so decision made (I caught the ****** too and have now been paid out)

The idea at the moment is to buy a very in practical toy, and a more practical daily drive (6 1/2 years ago, at the age of 21, the celica was the best compromise of both)

My job is very physical and at the end of the day I'm very tired, I also have to deal with heavy traffic on the way home, hence I want an auto. I'v decided I'd like a Lexus is200, however the dual vvti altezza rs200 is very tempting. My question is, keeping one of these on the road, is it more expensive to run? Does any1 have fuel consumption figures for these against the 6 cylinder is200? Also what about other parts such as suspension? I know most of the import celicas had different (superstrut) suspension which was hideously expensive to replace, other than the obvious engine/box does the altezza also have similar differences to the is200?

If anybody is interested the impractical car I'm thinking of is a 300zx tt/manual targa top. Just for fun Big Grin, but as my only transport is a Honda fireblade I'd like to get a practical car ASAP lol

welcome to ojc, the rs200 is same bhp as the is300 (211bhp standard) but the is300 has far more toys and is semi auto, so if you can find a nicely looked after 300 dont discard that idea also, especially when sitting on the IDR on the way home from work lol, suspension is interchangable between all models as they all use the same shell, except for the sportscross versions. only major differences are engines and gear boxes really, so all other parts can be transfered between models (as200 rs200 is200 is300) so if you didnt like the interior of an as200 you could put in is300 seats or door cards for example.

having now owned my IS200 for 3 years I would say get a IS300 as they drink the same amount of petrol and you get more kit with the 300 as standard

RS200 or IS300. Both cost the same to run fuel wise - but the RS200 will cost more to insure because it is an import. On balance the IS300 wins because it has a getter interior and that 6 cylinder 2JZ engine is a beauty.

I kinda wish I'd bought a IS300 instead of the IS200... Maybe I'll swap it in a while...

I will also agree the IS300 is the way to go, problem is finding a nice one with sensible mileage.
