Rusted rear brake disc
Rusted rear brake disc
Has anybody got any suggestions on how to refurb this rear brake disc on my car?
When I brought the car a couple of weeks ago I noticed the brakes didn't have that sharp bite that they should have so after inspecting them I noticed the rear passenger side disc was covered in surface rust so after taking the wheel off and having an almighty battle armed with a hammer and grips I managed to remove the pin and the pads and free the pistons up.
However now it's left a solid line of rust around the top of the brake disc and makes a horrible grinding sound when driving the sound you get with you are running metal on metal but I know it's just the pads bouncing off the rust, I have driven the car for a week now after fixing the caliper and as the force of the rear brakes are pretty low at the best of times it's not generating enough force to tackle the rust natually.
I think I am going to have to replace the disc which is a shame as it's got no wear on it as I don't really want to attack it with sand paper? :thumbdown:

Other than doing a couple of heavy braking attempts until it all disappears, I'd take the safe option and get a pair of new disks.

29-07-2019, 09:39 AM #5Yeah if it's not wearing off maybe take some wet and dry to it fair rough grade? Or get them skimmed but I'd agree maybe calipers aren't great.
