Im considering buying a 2nd hand TTE Supercharger kit for my is200 but the kit ive found comes with everything except the TTE black box / ECU piggyback.

Is it possible to use the cars standard ecu and just link in a HKS FCD standard?

Will that allow the supercharger to work or will the car be running to lean on fuel?

Ive read up a little bit on piggyback ECU's but they seem expensive and require proffisional tuning once fitted.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

You are always going to have to get the ECU set up as it will be running completly different so you will need to fork out for a days dyno run.

Best piggy backs out there are the emanage blues in my mind.

Car 1 - 02 Lexus IS200 SE Strathcaron Blue, Sport Grille, TTE Lowering Springs (to be fitted), K&N Panel Filter, 6500K XENON Headlight Main & Dipped Bulbs, Xenon Sidelights, 17" Gunmetal Powder Coated Alloys, Front Grooved Discs and Mintex Pads
Car 2 - 73 Hillman Imp AKA Hilda, Aquarious Blue, work in progress!

Not true Timmy it is a truely bolt on mod.

A lot of people run the FCD with the TTE SC kit. It isn't as good as the Black box but is a hell of a lot more reliable so people replace their BB with one when it fails as the BB is expensive.

The black box has a peak level of airflow it allows the ECU to see, wheras the FCD lies by a percentage throughout the rev range.

Set the FCD as high as possible without limp mode and it runs great. Different setups like different numbers however.

There was also a Silver Box which was the same but lowered the rev limit to stop people melting their pre cats - however just don't bounce off the limiter and you'll be fine. That or a decat manifold!

Was Supercharged Racing Green IS200 Sport. Now APR Stage 1 Seat Leon Cupra (220 Bhp).

Also the TTE SC setup runs a little lean but never dangerously so. Installing a piggyback ECU will release extra power.

On some cars the induction kit, exhaust manifold and cat back in addition to the kit can make it run quite lean so you do need a piggyback ECU otherwise you see a drop in power.

great advice Edeath and all spot on.

A Greddy BCC is a good alternative to the HKS fcd as it works more like the black box.

But as Edeath said if you decide to go for a greddy emanage ultimate or something like that and get it mapped properly you can wring another few bhp out of the charger kit

I've got a TTE converted ECU with an integrated black box at home. When I opened the ECU up to fit only the BB part into another another car I took a bunch of detailed pics of everything inside.

The TTE black box consists of about £5 worth of components. I will upload pictures tonight.

Is the BB better than the HKS FCD? In that case I'm going to make a BB and see how difficult it is Smile

That's interesting. I'll try and make a black box and replace the HKS FCD before I sell my supercharged kit Smile

Here's the ECU with the integrated TTE Black box:

Is it possible to have a schematic of this black box in order to reproduce it. I am planning to build my own supercharger kit and I would be very interested in this part.
