Im looking to replace the standard aerial on my 350Z with a stubby one, mostly for aesthetic reasons. I dont listen to the radio often but when I do the current one cant pick up some stations clearly. Its not like its local radio stations it struggles with either, Radio 1 is the worst!

So yeah, any suggestions for stubby aerials welcome!

have you got an aftermarket radio in the car ?

if you have it could be that the antenna power hasn't been connected thus giving you bad reception.....

Yeah its aftermarket.
Could be that, didn't realise there was an antenna power thought it was just a single cable for the aerial. Pretty sure that cable is connected.

Some stations come through perfectly clear and the right volume, but not others.

With the ignition switch in ACC or ON, power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 6, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
 to audio unit terminal 10.

Ground is supplied through the case of the antenna amp.

When the radio switch is turned ON, antenna signal is supplied
 through audio unit terminal 5
 to antenna amp. terminal 1.
Then the antenna amp. is activated.

The amplified radio signals are supplied to the audio unit through the antenna amp.

The MR2 guys use S2000 aerials when they're after a stubby replacement. They are also amplified.

Cheers Toxo.
Surely I wouldn't need the signal amp though if the 350Z has one already?
