Flame & Thunder Santa Pod October 2012
Flame & Thunder Santa Pod October 2012
I presume the reason we have never been to this is that we all think the Pod is too cold and too wet in October so it won't be worth the trip. We are so so wrong,.. ok it was cold, very very very cold and it did rain for an hour but they went all out to dry the track asap and get back to some action. What epic action it was too, the strip was full of amazing dragsters, jet cars of all shapes and sizes, a rocket bike .. the countdown was 5..4..3..2..1.... oh it's over.. 4.2 seconds !!! There were tiny little jet cars that made all the noise and flame and smoke and pootled along like the track cleaner lol.. Infact they used them to help dry the track and the whole of their jet tunnel at the back just glowed red. They had a huge bonfire which was lit by the Jet beetle. There were loads of traders although mostly clothing and sticker orientated but the hat man did really well as it was so very cold. Everyone was walking around with wolfs heads hats or tigers or monsters or afro coloured hats.
There was the worlds fastest mini, a postman pat van that did actually used to be one of those kiddies rides outside a supermarket, wheelie competitions that tiny fiats won, a jet truck, jet go karts and some flame burnout competitions once it got dark.
So much else went on all over the site, there was a huge wooden construction housing wall of death motor bikes, a parachute display team, a stunt aeroplane overhead (felt like he was landing on our heads at one point), helicopter rides, the funfair, monster trucks and monster truck rides, a mountain bike display stunt team, show cars which included some gorgeous american cars and some famous movie cars too. You could walk around the pits where all the plentiful drag cars and trucks were being prepped - fascinating. There were stunt displays and a hunt the Witch competition... this did make me a bit nervous when it was advertised near the bonfire!
Titan the robot was there, I avoided him cos although they do make him funny, I've seen too much Terminator and he scares the **** out of me. There was an ice rink, remote control cars, circus perfomers, Ken Block doing a gymkhana grid and signing autographs. He will have had writes cramp bigtime, the queue was the entire length of the strip!
I'm sure there was a lot more going on and I have to say it was a great great event. If there was a downside to it it's only that apparently there will be no club space on tarmac next year and as much as I could live at an event like this, there is no way I am parking on the grass.. the exit on the way home was a mud bath and the cars coming out of spectator parking were absolutely filthy.. I can't believe I have only discovered this event at the last time I would go Gutted
Anyway, just waiting for my pics to upload to photobucket then I will post them here.
Thanks to Matt Racestyle for helping get a last minute ticket for me and pointing out dirt on my car to my mechanic :p Thanks to JustJap and ExtremeBHP for hospitality n company
