so ive already done a thread thought id do another one. So couple of weeks ago i was on my way home when my car decide that mid over take it would firstly show up the oil light ooooooooo what the fxxk was my initial reaction then as i started to pull over the other oil light came on then followed other oil light then by the transmit ion light at this point i realised that the engine was not running being the cunning person i am and all the years of watching pimp my ride  i knew i had a problem, having had a cam belt go before after having a quick poke at the engine and finding enough tools to take bits off i stumbled upon the problem
[Image: IMG-20121114-00826.jpg]

now i can a sure you that the belt although its supposed to be wrapped around pullies
and tensioners that it shouldn't look like this if it does you got a problem.
so that's the cam belt side of things taken care of now cause the engine is essentially running as two separate parts now not together pistons start arguing with the valves :LOCMOD:

and end up looking like this
[Image: IMG-20121118-00853.jpg]

oil and ting in with the pistons was just where i took the head off was heavier than i thought the silver bits on the piston you can see in the picky is where the valve hit :Bazza: so anyway this is why cam belts should be changed regular and not expect the stamps in the lexus service book to be correct :gay:

I don't know if it's relevant to your situation, but Toyota revised the service intervals for the IS200. When it was launched it was 100,000 miles between cambelt changes but they took this down to either 70,000 or 75,000 after some premature failures.

looks like the idler failed given the wear thru on the belt teeth.... is a good idea to pull the cam cover back every now and then to have a look at the condition.

what mods do u have on the engine?
