Well Ive owned lots of old school Japanese cars but never a legit and extremely rare JDM car, got her about 2 months ago and since then Ive been cleaning her, doing all the maintenance and taking care of all the little things that are wrong with her.

Car specs:
1985 Toyota GX71 Mark II GT Model
Twin turbo 1G-GTE engine
24 valve twin cam
OEM 2 way 8 inch LSD differential

Suspension:
Front: JIC front coilovers with camber plates
Rear: Ae86 springs and shocks

Interior:
Completely stock and beautiful other than half a cage.

Wheels:
Rare SSR MK1's
front:14x8 -0 offset 4.5 inch lip
rear: 14x9 -25 offset 5.5 inch lip

Future plans well for now keep on with the maintenance and later on 2013 a good 2 tone Japanease paint job

All right on with the pics:

[Image: 80A2E2CD-8385-436C-893F-7A958DDF1534-399...68C7AE.jpg]

Installing the shift boot I found under the center console draw door a real japanease auto federation sticker and other labels all over the interiors that I need translated.

Anyboody know nihonggo?

I think this is the only GT in the states so I have a couple of questions on the car.

1) The 1g-gteu is not an engine that came to the U.S. so what can I do to the engine to modify and achieve 300hp?

2) The car still has the bozo 1.5 inch straight exhaust from Japan so should I go for 3 inch or 2.5?

3) I'm actually working on the rear end installing new boots, wheel bearings and brakes but there's no parts for this car here so what parts interchange with the rear end and brakes for this car. MX73?

4) How special is the GT model and what's so special about it, any info you guys can provide on the car I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Can't answer much but the first question.

Firstly. The car looks awesome!
Secondly you can turn the stock turbos up to about 1 bar for more power. Loads of info on the toymods forum.

If you can find a single manifold then you can get a nice single on the stock rods and pistons. I'm running a gt3071r at 1.25 bar.

That's lovely. I'd assume the stickers are service (timing belt?) related, as that's the only thing I can think of where you'd need to record the mileage vs the date. I had one like that in my MR2 but I never got it translated.

Usually with Toyotas of that era, the 'GT' spec has all the toys. I note you have the digital dashboard, which would have been an optional extra normally (but may have been standard in a GT). I'd also expect things like air conditioning, cruise control, an uprated stereo etc. It's a bit old for auto folding mirrors and steering fog lights though!

I've looked in the parts catalogue. GX71 came in :

GD (Grande Type)
GT
LG
LS

The frame had 2 body styles, hard top or sedan. You can tell the difference from the front end, the hard top (like yours) has a slanted nose, the sedan's is vertical.

GT only came in hard top, and only with the 1G-GTEU engine, but either 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual was available

LG came in hard top or sedan, but only with the 1G-EU engine (single cam). 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual.

LS only came in sedan and only 1G-EU.

LG and LS will have been the low spec model they used for fleet cars, taxis etc.

GD is a weird one, it seems to have come in auto or manual, hard top or sedan, 1G-EU or 1G-GEU but no turbo option. So the GT is the only one that was fitted with the twin turbo engine from factory.

Only GD or GT had the option of the digi dash. Only the turbo engine or the 1G-GE engined cars had the option of cruise control. I've also got part descriptions for a 'Super Monitor' which appears to be a fuel computer of sorts, and an ion generator (air purifier).

Only the GT had a rear windscreen wiper. GD and GT spec have heated electric seats. Apparently they both have a 'quick hand warmer' too, some heating ducting around the steering column/wheel?

I was aware of that, but I'd never seen the car it came in!

In answer to your question, an MX71 Cressida has the same rear brake discs. Wheel bearing info is a bit unclear, Toyota seem to have used 2 different manufacturers of CV joint and the rear axles look odd to say the least! It's like the outer bearing is actually partway down the axle rather than in the hub.
