08-12-2019, 10:38 AM #1Hi guys , my brother has a sportcross with a system which i think is just too heavy (deafening) for the car. He has fitted various capacitors etc, But the fuses keep blowing. He now wants to fit a different alternator (more amperage) so he can charge another battery in the boot is this possible? can he he not just use the same alternator to charge both batteries?

I think not...Phil. Is there an higher amp alternator for the lexus?

I think you will find I am correct on the physics side, your alternator is trying to provide current to both your amp and trying to charge the cap at the same time, a hell of a lot harder on your entire stereo and charging system especially given the huge electrical drain the IS... has from factory.
I've re-wired systems where a cap was used to help with deep bass for a couple of seconds (at the beginning of a track), but a proper electrical system and removal of the cap was proven to be better and not for a *couple of seconds* for long sustained high volume playing. Caps generally hide the root cause of the lack of power like a failing battery or as you want a new alternator. Even just simply increasing the cable sizes to and from the Alt can help.
Caps are generally a waste of time, unless you like shiny things? - proper electrical charging is by FAR the most important part of your whole audio system.
Yes there are higher amp alts for the Lex.

He'd be best off getting a trickle split charge system and another battery in the boot. They use the trickle charge systems on things like caravans and the like.
