Jambo your so much better off not picking up bad habits by using other cars.
I would just let the driving school teach you to be honest.
Start with 20 lesson if you can afford it mate.

Jambo Thanks all for your tips. Im wondering how many lessons to book. I have about £350 saved up and looking for a job. The thing is, i dont have acess to any other car (manual), to practice any extra hours in, and i cannot afford to get insured on a friends car.

What I tend to do with my pupils who want to practice in their own car is to have enough lessons with me so when they are practicing, they should be able to deal with preety much everything that they come across with only the smallest amount of advice needed from the accompanying driver. I also recomend that before you practice with a friend or relative, have them sit in the back of one of your driving lessons so they can see your current ability and what you are capable of dealing with.

Private practice is a very usefull thing when learning to drive so long as it is structured correctly and used only as practice but it can also be very counter productive if not done properly. This also tends to happen when my pupils go off without telling me so I have to spend some time on driving lessons undoing what friends and relatives have taught before we can move on and have a look at new things. It makes learning to drive quite a bit longer this way.

Any good driving instructor will be able to advise you about these things.

Bad driving habbits are also very easy to pick up from other drivers so get all the information from your instructor first, then practice this information your given. You will then find the time it takes to get to the required standard to be safe enough to pass the driving test will be shortend.

Sorry for going on a bit.

Be good,

Jim.

How much is it to get insured on Ann's clio? Ive applied at the "Old Origional" near the crossroads on huddersfield road, so might be able to afford it?

Also found a good driving instructor. My friend from primary school said shes a family friend, and passed both his sisters first time. He drove for about 40minutes in his first lesson. Another friend who is with Sykes only drove 50m in the first lesson.

Thanks for the advice people. I will take them all into consideration when choosing driving, and also if i drive a car outside of lessons. I will stick to what the instructor has told me and tought me.

I meant an auto liscence is clinically usless lol. :p. How much would 3 week be? Im guessing when/if i get the money , it would be better to insure for just a day, or 2? Instead of a full 3 week.

Jambo, are there any driving schools round your way that do the 1st lesson free? quite a few round here do it so you can see how you get on with the instructor etc?

Think Safedrive are up your way and they do it? not sure on the terms for having a free 1st lesson as you might have to make a block booking? but would of thought that would defeat the object if you dont get on with the instructor etc?

Do 10 free 1st lessons to get some practice  and then pick the one you get on with Big Grin

I passed a driving instructors car this morning and he was advertising that you "drive on your 1st lesson!!".

This shocked me because I assumed everyone would drive on their 1st lesson THAT'S WHY YOUR THERE TO DRIVE!!

totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

Yerh. It doesnt say how far, and for how long though Smile.

Think im going to ring a woman called pam up today to see what she can offer and ill post here. I think its £21 a lesson, and a free lesson when you book 10.

Although, ill probably book 1 in the near future to see how she is etc.
