diy supercharger limp mode
diy supercharger limp mode
hi guys im having issues with my car going into limp mode occassionally, its usually after high revs or dual carriage way driving at high speed when your feathering the gas, ive got a diy supercharger kit fitted with a mini bypass valve and a re-circ valve fitted, i changed the re-circ for a hks ssqv and made it abit worse, also if i blank off the mini bypass and run just a re-circ or ssqv it goes into limp mode nearly all the time making it undriveable and the supercharger gets alot hotter.
im guessing it has something to do with built up boost pressure maybe?? im running 8-9psi boost and the supercharger is not running the clutch but ive read a few people do this.
ive searched and searched on here and the closest thing i can find is people having issues with a fcd, i have a aem fuel and ignition piggyback which has been mapped at thor so im guessing i dont need a fcd?
any help or suggestions are welcome as its really annoying haha
thanks
If the car goes into limp mode it will be for it's own safety, as it sensed something it didn't like, *normally* this allows you to get to the dealer to diagnose the problem. The usual cause of this in supercharged cars in a black box or FCD failure and it stores a fault code for inlet manifold pressure too high. If you have the AEM fitted and mapped properly (from Thor you would expect it to be) then your problem could be something else entirely. But I thought when limp mode was triggered the ECU would store a fault code for the cause? So the dealer knew the problem once you had limped there! Have you read the codes to see if anything comes up?
This is the engine you got off ebay isn't it? Did you get it mapped yourself or are you using a map that was already on the piggy back?
