For some reason my rear fogs don't work, the light on the switch won't come on, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Tested bulbs and both fine.

The weird thing is, when I remove this fuse (driver side footwell, second down on the left, fuse puller on it in the pic) which is labeled "TAIL" it kills the rear light clusters BUT the fogs will work on and off on the switch. If I put the fuse back the rear lights come on and the fogs stay on until turned off, once off they won't come on again!

I have followed the wiring back from the bulb holder through the boot arm to the boot and back through the rear seats to the front seat (boot build out, rear seats out, MASSIVE task!) but everything I can see looks fine and hasn't been messed with. I suspected a bad fog to brake mod but can't see any evidence of it.

A couple of pics just because I have them:

I found a lot of wires here, but none seem to be related to the problem!

There was a bodged fog to rear light mod, with added bulb holders inserted though holes drilled in the back of the fog light, and wired to the number plate lights. However as this didn't touch the bulb holder or the supply wires for the actual fog bulbs, I didn't think it could be the problem, but removed the whole lot anyway so it back to stock.

Any ideas, anyone? I'm stumped!

Has one of the fogs or tail wires been grounded to earth? I found in our car that all of them work on some weird switched negative. Might be a mod in any of your lighting system causing it, even interior lighting in that case?

Thanks for the quick late night reply!

All the wiring I can see looks ok, mostly in stock plastic sheif wrap that should protect it from earthing. The car has a lot of electrical mods but now I've removed the extra bulb holders and made sure that wiring is insulated it all the rear lights should all be totally stock, all other lights too, I think.

The diodes could have broken down. I'd disconnect the fog brake mod to be sure.

The alternative is the fog switch itself maybe?

The switch is fine, swapped out for another, both work in other car but neither do in this one.

I suspected the fog/brake mod but can't see one installed anywhere, wiring all untouched in the usual places you'd fit the diodes and I can't find any! There were extra bulb holders added onto the rear plate light feed and I have removed them, no change.

MOT today so will just have to let it fail. See if there are any other issues as I have a few days for a retest then NEED the car on the road for a holiday!

there looks like there is a relay pack installed in one of the images this one
[Image: IMG_20130829_213328.jpg]

It could be that they have not gone down a diode route for the fog to brake option and done it using relays if they have and one of these has failed this could be the issue ?

Try tracing these wires to see if they match up ?

Thanks bud, will give it a look.

The relays at the bottom of the pic? I didn't think it was related to the right wiring but I was doing this mostly in the dark with a phone torch! Will tear back all the tape later and check for sure. Seriously running out of ideas now! So a duff relay on there could present my symptoms of fog circuit dead when rear lights are live, and the the fog circuit live when the rear lights are dead?

Car has gone in for MOT now, just hoping I can fix it over the weekend and get a free retest Monday? Also hoping this is the only item it fails on!

Actually the garage just called, they have immobilised the car and can't figure out the Clifford!

It took me a while to remove the entire boot build! I have never seen so much wiring in a car in my life! (There are also 6 screens!)
