Sparkystav thats a nice boot build!

Thanks mate. Doesn't look so nice in pieces in my front room!

This gear was all top of the range a few years ago and would have cost several thousand to buy and custom install. At one time it was a demo car for an ICE company, so the quality of the gear and worksmanship is top notch. However the components are worth very little now, as is the way with aging electronics.

NEW PROBLEM!

I have no idea how, but the fogs were not picked up on the MOT! However, I have failed on front headlights. Fail sheet says they do not work. They do work however, but for some reason when you turn on the lights, only the side lights go on. If you pull on the stalk (as if to flash your full beams) this actives the light and the normal dipped beam comes on. Apparently this is a fail?

I assume someone has modded them this way intentionally. I am looking into whether this is a legitimate fail or not, as I know people who have relocated light switches and passed and isn't this the same? I am still looking to return the lights to stock anyway though, so my question is now..... How/where would this mod likely be done? So I can look to reverse it. The guy on the counter said maybe I need a new stalk, but I think it's probably am aftermarket mod rather than a broken oem component.

1st things check the wiring going to each cluster is that factory or after market

Relays for headlights I think (been a few years) are in the engine bay so could be modded there

Last place is in the console under/behind the clocks there is limited space to hide boxes of tricks but you never know...

The wiring from the headlights looks to be factory as does the immediately visible part of the loom. I will be having a proper look after work. Do you know the exact routing the wiring for the lights takes? From the switch to the headlights, presumably it runs though a fuse box (and relays there) which I would assume is the main under bonnet one? Do you have a wiring diagram showing the full path of the feed I will need to dig out?

Still don't think it's a fail, and looking into appealing it. But I don't like this setup much, it also mean the Auto light don't work on their own.

Doing my head in now, going on holiday next week and need this car legal!

Could it just be a broken indicator stalk? My Nissan behaved a lot like that when I got it and I had to replace the stalk.

If I were going to change how the stalk worked I'd do it in the wiring in the steering column. Also there are loads of funny rules about lights on the front of the car - illegal to have both dipped beam and main beam on at the same time, for example. I suspect the issue in your case is that you have to hold them on for them to function.

A couple of people have suggested this so I will look to swap it out from one of my spare cars, just because I can, when I get the chance (they live ten minutes out of town).

I have had a look inside the steering column and there is a wire soldered onto the stalk connector, here: [Image: IMG_20130830_183651.jpg]

I will try to follow it back, but it gets very jumbled around that area, with several set of relays! It's added to a blue/red wire. Does anyone have the pin outs for this connection so I can try to familiarise myself with what I am looking at?

As I say, quite jumbled up in there, and access is bad.

Note to mods: please fix the formatting of the above post (lost edit function temporarily), and change the title to "Light wiring issues" if you don't mind, as this is no longer about fogs! This post can then be deleted.
