So after selling my charger, I was pretty gutted with no boost and THAT noise!!

Since getting the car back on the road, I seriously miss the extra power (especially as I've started drifting it again), but as much as I love the noise, I can't justify spending £2k on another charger setup, so Im looking at conversions.

After speaking to a couple of people, I've got some rough prices for swaps assuming I do all the work myself (i.e just parts) and wondered if anyone on here had anything to add?

SR20 - £800-1000
3SGTE - £1500
1UZ/3UZ - £2000

Has anyone done any of the above conversions? If so, what was the biggest hurdle/most expensive or difficult part?

I realise that the wiring is probably going to be one of the trickiest bits to sort, has anyone got any advice as to what the best route is etc?

Any help/ideas/suggestions etc would be awesome!

Smile

I'm not aware of anyone having done the SR20. That doesn't mean it hasn't been done - I don't tend to pay attention to IS200s much.

3SGTE has been tried a few times. It requires a lot more work than you would expect - you need an Altezza RS200 gearbox, and modification work to the engine (oil drains etc) to make it work inline instead of longitudinally. The water outlet housing is in a conflicting location for example.

1UZ is well documented.

Didn't fancy the JZ or G-GTE route?

In my mind, the best thing to do is to sell the IS200, buy an IS300, do a manual conversion and then start fitting Supra turbo parts. You'd end up with a better car IMHO.

Id end up spending a lot more money doing that, and being that I'll be drifting this car, Id rather use my current shell which isn't mint, and then when I fancy a fast road car I'll go IS300 if Im still in love with the IS etc Smile

your costs will be a lot more than that i predict, its all the little bits that add up.

as for comments if your serious about it and doing the work yourself the skys the limit!

Yeah I agree - take what you think it's going to cost and double or triple it and you might have some idea.

very wise words those

a different engine will likely require a standalone ecu which are £600-£1500 dependng if you can wire it yourself etc

I've got a guy that can do a drive in drive out conversion for me if I lose my bottle, for £1700.

He competes in the BDC in his 1JZ Altezza, so knows his stuff Wink

Stick a1JZ in it.
Do not try to get a 3SGTE in there - it wont work properly, will cause you lots if unforeseen issues. Do not think it is similar to the Altezzas 3SGE they are very different engines in regards to retrofitting in to vehicles.

most will say that to get your business unfortunately, then few weeks/days later the price starts to go up and before you know it its 3x your budget. so if he says that get it in writing before he starts the job
also if your changing your gearbox you will probably need a custom propshaft, the diff may need changing as ratios may not match.
