That sounds like a familiar tune Dino.

The guy in question, is reputable and have heard good things from many after speaking to a few others, about him etc.

I would 90% be doing it myself though with help of course.

Would love a v8 or 1JZ, those are my options if I can make funds allow.

I don't doubt that he is, but remember everyone who has responded to you in this thread has either done their own engine conversion (mostly on ISs) or is in the process of doing so, so have first hand experience of what's really involved.

bounty` I've got a guy that can do a drive in drive out conversion for me if I lose my bottle, for £1700.

He competes in the BDC in his 1JZ Altezza, so knows his stuff Wink

Dale also had someone hunting him down for being ripped off a while ago too. I've never had any problem with him, but £1700 sounds very cheap. Sam_B did the 1JZ conversion himself, he's the guy to speak to if you want info. It cost him considerably more than 1700 quid though.

Whatever you do, an IS300 is a better starting point. Forget a 1UZ for less than 2k, it will cost you almost that much to mate a gearbox to it and get a prop and exhaust manifold made, plus you will have to do something about the rear diff.

SR20 might work with an S15 6 speed, it's the same gearbox as the IS200 with a slightly different 6th gear ratio. You'd probably need the tail end of the IS200 gearbox but you might be able to get it to mate up to the IS200 prop. This is purely conjecture though.

The best route would be to get an IS300 and turbo it.

I worded my original post slightly wrong, that figure of £1700 is the cost of Dale's labour, that's without parts.

I doubt I could run an IS300 daily tbh, they're so bad on fuel.

I know for a fact that an SR20'd IS would be more economical (Spoken to someone who's owned both), hence Im looking at swaps and not turbo'ing a 300.

To be honest though, I'm open to suggestions, the knowledge on here is vastly superior to my own Smile

If fuel is an issue, then any turbo conversion will cost silly money to run. All the engines you have mentioned will struggle to get low 20's mpg, you could be different and drop a BMW 330d in an is200 andhave the best of both worlds, power and efficiency.

I would have named a jap diesel if they had a good one - but they don't.

I know quite a few people running sr20's for example (S14), that return 25-30+ mpg. I can't see there being too much difference running one of those engines in an IS200 shell tbh.

IS200s are worse on fuel than IS300s. So in a straight swap, the IS300 would return better economy. Obviously once you start adding forced induction that goes out the window.

You can basically make MPG figures up with forced induction. I could get my MR2 (290bhp 3SGTE) to return 14MPG or 35MPG, depended entirely how I drove it.
