I know there's quite a few of us that work in IT so thought this would be the best place to ask! What's the best way to initiate an automated shutdown of a machine by OU? There's a number of people that don't shut down their machines so I wanted to put a script or similar into the group policy to initiate a shutdown of any machine still powered up at a certain time of the day.

Thanks Smile

take a look at scheduled tasks, certain versions of Windows allow you to setup task to restart machines/servers.

That's what I ended up trying in the end. Set up a scheduled task with the shutdown command and some different switches. Going to do some testing on it today.

Surely a query of AD by OU, to get a list of machine names, then just running shutdown -m \\computername -t 0 -s as domain or enterprise admin would do it?

Already taken that into account! Smile I may chance the policy to a hibernate one instead of shutdown...not had a chance to look into it again yet today as looking into data issues on our database now but will get back to it on Monday I hope.
