First Car Thoughts/.
just had a quote for a 1.0l starlet at £144 fully comp  made me laugh though if i wanted 3rd party only it went upto £159??
Looks like the 1.0ltr was only up to a 1993 L reg?
Yep might hve been. And i dont know if ide feel confident buying a car nearly as old as myself. Dont know if it would be as reliable.
When we got rid of ours mate it had 186,000 miles on the clock and still ran very well :w00t:
Thing is mate get your lessons sorted and pass your test and keep saving untill you need to find a motor, at least that way you'll hopefully have a few £'s to play with and you might find a bargain in your price/insurance range :thumbup1:
Yep. What im planning. Just got to find a job, and for a student in my town its more or less impossible with about 3 colleges in the same area.
OK Jambo - stop using compare the market.com and start finding specialist insurance companies like SKY, Adiran Flux, Lifesure etc..
I have an 18 year old customer running an MR2 GTS (Turbo/import model - **** its fast faster than the Skyline IMHO) and his insurance is £1500 a year through SKY.
Good deals are out there but you have to really search to find them, don't mod your car and only buy one you don't care that much about because if you do make a claim you will have to pay huge premiums for the next 4 years.........
Yerh. Compare etc come out with some high prices. But its partly to do with the OL postcode. I remember trying deans partners, and it brought it down another £800.
Shall try ringing places soon, and just give a false dob? Or say ive just passed my test whats the quote on a ....... (I tried e-mailing an insurance company from you know where. And it only insured drivers only 21. I thought it was sky?)
I didn't think Sky insured young drivers either.
if you do you pass plus then i will count as one years no claims, i did it when i had my civic, the orignal insurance quote of my 1.4 civic was £2800, did my pas plus and the quote was reduced to £1700 and that was fully comp iwht a £470 excess. Norwich union did that deal for me.
You really do need to try every insurer you can get your hands on as it really varies depending on age, area, car and so many different factors.
When I was 17, no one would touch me except Norwich Union, then got the Lex at 19 and had to move to Privilege (only one that was reasonable) and then since a few years ago no one else can get near the price I pay with Admiral.
Pick anyone else on here and they would have pretty much the opposite story as there are so many factors they take into account. That's why you'll need to try anyone and everyone - it's obviously going to be high as you're a new, young driver, but I would have hoped you wouldn't need to pay more than £1500 for fully comp on a small car.
I am guessing that you need to look at a small 1.0 1-2 litre engine car that is not a boy racer model.
I would then agree totally with Parthiban comments above.
Then hold onto this for a year and then you can start to get a slightly more performance car as each year goes by, but be carefully to keep your licence clean.
