I was getting a bit fed up of the Nissan, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with it, it's just being the age it is it requires plenty of attention and is missing quite a few modern features that you'd expect on a car these days. I would rather have a daily driver I can just get in and drive, and do the work and spend the money on the RX7. I fancied a convertible for summer as I have a few euro road trips coming up, and MK3 MR2s are now very cheap - I picked this one up for under £2k. I was looking for something £2k or under, with a soft top, and less than 100,000 miles. It was really just that or an MX5 (or an MG TF but the less said about them the better) and it seems like every man and his dog has an MX5 around here at the moment! It's a facelift model too, so it doesn't have the piston ring issues of the earlier model, has front foglights and updated light clusters, and the SMT box is 6 speed not 5. It's also got the factory double staggered wheels, which are 15" on the front and 16" on the rear.

Pics from the advert:

And one of the two together:

The car is not without its issues, as any cheap 11yr old car would be. But it's got a very comfy heated leather interior, a 6 speed sequential gearbox, traction control and cupholders!! All mod cons. The interior is lovely and the bodywork is excellent, there are some swirls in the paint but it will polish up like new if I give it to Dan.

First 2 things to look at are brakes and tyres.

Like the Mr2 and looks like you got a decent one for the money. I did the same recently as I wanted a ragtop for the sunny days, if they ever arrive in Scotland. Looked at the same as what you got and thought it was a great wee car for the money.....ended up going for something else though.
Enjoy

Cheers

I assume then that face lift version like yours has the skittish handling sorted out then? It is possibly the most impractical Toyota ever!!

I'm not aware of them generally having handling issues tbh although mine does! I have a different tyre brand on each corner and I think a sticking brake. Also discovered one of my front tyres was 7psi overinflated and the other was 2psi underinflated which made life interesting... Have set them all to the right pressure and lo and behold it now drives in a straight line. Haven't played with the head unit yet as it takes CDs and I haven't found my old CD wallet yet!

Ours was very skittish in the wet, dry, snow and erm any road surface. It was a 1st gen and they did change suspension/wheels I believe for the face lift.

I can't believe no one has said it yet... and I can't wait any longer.. soooo

When do you take your City & Guilds and will you hang the golden scissors from the rear view mirror?

Teeheee .... please don't come round and let my tyres down Sad

It's a lovely car and I'm sure you'll enjoy the summer especially if you're going on your usual annual abroad adventures x

I can't believe you're the first person anywhere to make any hairdresser comments! Loads of my mates have MX5s though so I wouldn't have got it from them Smile

There are a couple of mechanical bits I'm not sure about - I can take MK1s and MK2s apart with my eyes closed but I know nothing of MK3s, so I'm taking it to Rogue 1 day next week for them to give it the once over and to let me know any advice they have.
