Mx5's which to go for???
Mx5's which to go for???
Can anybody offer any tips about the mx5 as in what to beware of and which is better the 1.6-1.8???
My daily commute of 2 miles is about to change to nearer 60miles.
And as part of this I can't be running the Soarer up and down the motorway.
So I think I'm going to go for the mx5. Weld the diff etc and at least get a bit of fun too
How reliable are these cars and is there anything that tends to go wrong etc.
any advice is welcome.
Chris
Mega reliable just check for sill and rear arch rot
If you are commuting 60 miles I would go for the MK 2 as much softer car to drive, the Mk1 is simply the best raw all rounder.
The 1.6 is more revvy than the 1.8 and there is nothing in performance between the two, 1.8 is has torqs so it would make a better motorway car.
Weld the diff and go have some fun, simply the best handling car out there chris
Thanks Phil.
Yeah everyone I've looked at has sill and arch rot.
But I want something I can commute in, not have to give everybody a lift (selfish but best way sometimes lol) and if I scratch, dent or destroy then it's no major deal.
But the main concern is reliability.
reliabilty aint an issue, mine has done 120k, I have done 18k in two years and I have not had to fix anything other than a slight power steering leak, that was an easy fix, added a bottle of leak stop additive and it worked.
Good fun cars and dirt cheap for spares and for modding,
Well I maybe getting 1 sooner than I thought.
Not the tidiest tbh. But sills and arches are good and at £900 including the hard top I see a win win with some fun
Keep us updated Chris, when you got it, me and Oli will pop over and see you.
I will do for definite Phil. Be good to catch up again. Maybe even a cheeky drink
My misses fancies a convertible and I'm considering it as a 2nd car, as the IS300 is returning sub-15mpg around town. (It would also allow me to take the IS off the road to boost it, but I don't think she knows that yet!) I think for a sub £1k car they are very hard to beat (unless you need more seats!) We have our eye on a purple wide arch one on ebay, but it is up for £2k.
I haven't told my mrs yet lol.
But I'm also going to be teaching kids to drive in it. (Insurance with a 20 & 23 year old was less than £800) plus I am trying to go down the supercharger route with the Soarer. Got somebody trying to make all the kit for around £6-700 plus charger. (Mrs only knows part of that lol)
