Problem with IS200 head unit
Problem with IS200 head unit
What year is your car, iLLzLex ? Not sure if later head units will fit in earlier cars, or vice versa ? Certainly I'd be wary and want to try it to make sure. Similarly non-satnav cars with satnav head units ? Anyone know for sure ?
Lexusboy Steve i think they fit, but there is a issue some thing to do with the amp or Radio.

parthiban This is probably the case, I know for sure that you can't simply swap a bottom slot for a top slot and vice versa, but not sure if it can be done with a bit of wiring modification.
Good point about the nav, I think they have different model numbers for cars with nav and cars without but not sure if there is an actual difference between the headunits.
@illzlex: If you only listen to your ipod might be worth just getting something like the gromaudio box rather than replacing the headunit.

I don't think that a later model head unit will easily work in an earlier car like yours, unfortunately. Is yours a "bottom-loading" model, i.e. the CD slot is at the bottom and not right at the top ?
Grom make some adaptors that you can use to connect an iPod to the IS200 head unit, with the head unit thinking you're connecting to a CD - so it should be better quality than using a tape adapter. I am not sure if they work on the earlier "bottom-loaders" though, there have been mixed reports on this.
Personally if I was you I would save up for a new aftermarket head unit. The failure of the OEM one is very common in terms of the CD mechanism getting jammed. These days you can get head units with built-in iPod support, Bluetooth, DVD screens if you want, etc, etc.
I'm not sure I understand your comment about the colour though, maybe I've misunderstood. The head unit is just black no matter what colour the car is, isn't it ?
I'm going to split out a load of these responses into a new topic in the Audio/Video forum, because we're going a bit away from 2tongues's original selling topic.
iLLzLex whats the gromaudio?
