Garrett TR30R
Garrett TR30R
As some of you know, I'm turboing my Altezza. I'm using a motorsport turbo and it's been very hard to find details. I'm pretty certain it is a TR30R although there are no marking or anything on the turbo but it looks the same and is used in the same spec WRC cars.
These turbos can't be bought and they are horrendously expensive. £600 minimum apparently! I have 1 spare but it will be a rebuilt one, it is NOT brand new. However, they shot blast it, clean it up, fit new bearings and seals, machine it to remove any vibration, balance it all and test it so it may aswel be brand new. Also comes with a heat wrapped exhaust housing.
The whole turbo is made from exotic materials so it can handle some serious abuse. There are many different type of these turbos and this one can handle 2.5 bar max (or so I've been told) but they run on the car they came off at 1.5 bar with anti lag. Again, so I've been told, it will run out of puff after 350ish hp as it is pretty small. They are designed to spool fast, be lightweight, push a very large volume of air in and take serious abuse.
You WILL need a custom manifold or a v band welded on instead of whatever flange you currently have. Has a restrictor already fitted and can come with a speed sensor but you will probably struggle to read it without a badass ecu and someone who knows their stuff. The sensors are pretty dam expensive though so if you can run one it's worth it as it is free.
I'm not sure what size everything is, I can give it a measure when I'm back and take more pictures.
I doubt anyone would be interested but I thought I'd throw it up anyway as it is a pretty nice piece of kit.
Rebuild is pretty expensive so I am looking for £1200 for it. This is the only picture I have, can take more if anyone wants them.
I love everything about this except max hp lol
Though antilag lovelyness! Mmmm,m
Yea that's a pretty massive downfall unfortunately. I think it was actually 300-320 ish. Forgot to mention though, that's only because the inlet is so small and the inlet is small because of the wrc regs. No matter how fast the turbo goes it simply can't make more hp because of the restrictor. The air going in can't go faster than mach 1 no matter what you do so hp can't go up but air speed isn't linked to torque so the engines had crazy torque figures. They would be limited to 300 hp but have like 500+ nm (i think it was nm) of torque easily. I will find out the exact figures when I'm back but if you've ever seen a wrc car running they all use a very similar turbo with the same restrictor but they are still pretty ****** fast.
The anti lag would destroy your manifold before damaging the turbo lol they'd sit at 1.5 bar spinning at 160000 rpm the whole time the engines running. We did build a rally cross car which had the same turbo but a bigger impeller on the inlet And it could go to 550hp so it may be possible to make it into a hybrid for more power. Obviously it did start to lag a bit more but compared to the size and weight of the turbos I've seen which can push those kind of number it's a very small unit
Sounds awesome!
Jimbob t-lex needs a new turbo!
Exhaust turbine. I know it's covered in oil, Like I said it will be sent for rebuild before you get it I can't afford to rebuild it and wait for someone to buy it.
Compressor wheel
I asked about more power and the difference is a slightly bigger compressor wheel and housing. The wheels are CNC machined so they will cost more than the average wheels but I saw some CNC wheels for a different turbo from a garrett dealer at about £100 and it would probably fit a compressor housing of a mass production garrett.
