Voice recognition for OEM satnav
Voice recognition for OEM satnav
Not sure if this is the best place for this topic, so mods please move if necessary, but I don't think this is just for IS owners so thought it might make more sense to be in a general area.
Anyway, found out about this add on from the Clublexus site, and I was pretty surprised that it's never come up before. Apparently all the nav units like mine (the DVD ones from about 01-05) have support for voice recognition, if you look on the unit, there is an extra unused socket on it and that's where this plugs in. Then it's simply a case of running the cables with the switch and microphone through to the front of the car to wherever you want them and it's job done!
If anyone wants to do this, the part number you need is:
86750-44020 (Cost was £67 including 10% discount)
Bear in mind it's a Toyota part number and not a Lexus one when contacting your dealer. The only problem is that for some reason they only provide 2.5m of cabling which is by no means enough to get from the boot to the front of the car. We extended this by 3m and this was only just enough, so I'd recommend adding a bit more to stay on the safe side.
Click HERE for the original clublexus thread, which also has a list of the voice commands available.
Here's the kit:
Switch hidden under the heated seat switches:
Microphone on the A pillar:
Vid clip below, please try to ignore the moron providing the voice commands.........
Gotta say a huge thank you to Wozza for helping out with the install, and by helping out I mean doing all the soldering for me and telling me exactly how to take the car apart! Was a huge help and I really appreciate it
Cool, nice info
How much was the cable?

DJ Wozza I did wonder why this wasn't a more popular upgrade when we fitted it mate ?
Deffo worth doing if you have a navigator

This looks like a very useful mod.
Parthiban - Do you have any pictures of the ports on the DVD unit?
Its a very good idea to have in the motor, would make the sat nav so much easier to use when traveling? does it disable the motion lock on the nav system, as i found that a right pain while on the move?
Its a bit like the original lexus IS200/300 phone kit i have here, something you dont see very often, but is quite a usefull piece of kit and makes you wonder why more people dont have it?
alamkhan3980 Parthiban - Do you have any pictures of the ports on the DVD unit?No I don't unfortunately, but I'll try to get one for you. In any case if you lift up the boot floor and just have a peek at the satnav unit in the boot, it'll be pretty obvious as there's only one spare plug and that's where it goes

Marsdendean I think this is my next investment! Can you ask the satnav to route to a street & town while moving aswell, as it isnt on the list?No you can't input an actual address by voice, only your presets. Only the newest cars car do this and even then I think it doesn't work in the UK.
When my dad bought the car i have now bought, he wasnt given the option to purchase this, the only extras he was offered was the areo pack, and since they were pushing over £2000, he didnt go for them!

Yep I mentioned it in the first post but as Wozza said it's worth highlighting - for some bizarre reason the wire they provide is nowhere near long enough to reach from the boot to the front of the car so will need extending.
It was simply a case of cutting them and soldering a new piece of wire in between (which Woz did for me, cheers mate :thumbup1 but still needs to be done.
You'll need to get a length of cable from Maplin (can't remember how many cores you need but it'll be obvious once you get the part through) that is at least 3m.
