Freshening up ur Air con
Freshening up ur Air con
OK, not the most exciting topic.
Step 1: Clean the intake at the base of the windscreen.
Remove the wipers, remove the plastic cover under the wipers at the base of the windscreen and clean the trough underneath. Make sure that the drains at each end of the trough are not clogged and actually drain. If you hose water into this trough, you should see water coming out under the car, just behind the front wings and just in front of the doors (on both the driver’s and passenger sides).
Step 2: Clean the fan area.
Open the glove box, and take everything out of it. Push inward on the sides of the glove box while at the same time rotating the glove box forward and it will open past its normal stops. There are two plastic pins at the base of the glove box. Squeeze the end of the pins and slid them out. You can now remove the glove box from the car.
Next, pull off the filter cover and remove the filter. If you haven't done this before it will probably be full of dirt. Either clean it really well, or buy a new one.
Next, remove the fan from the bottom of the intake plenum buy removing the 3 screws that hold it in (120 degrees apart, at the outer edge). If your fingers are small enough, disconnect the fan cable before removing the fan. If not, support the fan once it's loose (don't let it hang by the wire) and then remove the two screws that hold the fan motor in place. The fan motor and fan cage will come off together. To clean it, first remove it from the fan motor by removing the clip and the end of the motor shaft with a pair of pliers. Next, support the fan cage on two blocks of wood and gently tap the motor axle until the motor and axle separate from the fan cage. Now that the fan is out, you can clean the entire intake plenum by putting your arm thru the hole the fan mounts in, and looking through the opening the filter fits into. Use Apc and some cloth. Make sure you reach far in and you can clean the fan resistor block and the Air con evaporator coil. You might have to use a brush to get the coil clean.
Next, make sure the drain tube is clear.
Assembly is the reverse.
Once done, turn the Air con on with the fan on low. Assuming it's hot you should see water coming out of the drain tube, just below the exhaust manifold in the engine bay,
Hope this helps.

Great tip, also gives you some good spaces to hide air fresheners
