Nissan Skyline 1996 stalling well quite a few things
Hello everyone,
I think i am classified enough to be in the Jap outlaws club with my Nissan Skyline 1996, shes a beauty a metallic red, body kit, specialized rims and for her age the interior has been very well looked after. I brought her about 6 months ago cheap due to no tax and needed some work doing, a very honest seller!! So i toook it on as a challenge being it is on of my favorite all time cars ever since i was a child and with all the "Fast & Furious" movies it's easy to get attached.
Anyway the reason i am here as i said before the Nissan needs some work doing i am coming across some symptoms that need sorting out asap and im not to sure what it could be, maybe nothing to major, maybe something no so good. we will see. I will drop the symptoms and specs below and hope someone can help a man out!!
SYMPTOMS
1. Engine light stays on sometimes when turning the key, then turn off back on engine light goes off.
2. Keeps stalling on a more regular basis than what any car should possibly misfiring (not 100%)
3. Whilst driving in any gear the car can start to randomly loose power for only for a short space of time
SPECS
Model: Skyline
Year: 1996
Engine: 2.0L
Transmission: 5 speed manual
Fuel type: petrol
Mileage: 99,976
I think that is pretty much all you would need but if any more specs are need just let me know and i will place them in..
I have joined another forum and they are pointing towards my ECU but i am not to sure the car would even run if that had failed?? just a thought.
Any information would be greatly appreciated guys looking forward to chatting to everyone!!
Thanks
welcome mate,
it could just be certain components in the ecu that have failed hence it still runs.
Im not certain; but reading the symptoms, they could all be caused by a intermittent faulty throttle position sensor maybe?
ECU light - sensing faulty sensor
Stalling - thinks the throttle is closed/not correct position so doesnt put enough fuel in
lose of power - same idea as above?
I never thought of the TPS This would be a cheap massive bonus and a easy fix if it is!! I will give it a check and get back to you!!
no worries, the symptoms you describe point to an intermittent problem so you may initially find a fault with the tps. may be worth replacing with a second hand unit just to try?
Though remember to measure the voltage before removing the old one so you can set the new one up!
I wasn't quite sure if it was the problem or not so it's booked in tomorrow to get changed then we will see if this fixes the problem.
Thanks
