Marsdendean All the info is on that site steve!
Its a very useful site, but you do have to have a little knowledge before flashing, as you can brick your handset (looks like a phone but is just like a brick!!) They also have loads of different things you can do with the phone

Latest update is that I've started updating my phone.
I've put the "HardSPL" on it, which is the enabler that lets me flash custom ROMs. This voids the Vodafone warranty of course, but then I can easily re-flash it back to what it came with originally. This HardSPL is just the enabler, as I say (it's effectively the boot loader) and doesn't make any obvious difference.
Today I loaded a new version of the "radio" ROM, i.e. the bit that does all the wireless communication etc. In theory the newer version might improve my signal slightly, give me faster GPS lock etc. It was very quick and painless to do.
Next step will be to flash a whole new custom ROM. I'm starting to get an idea of the different variants out there. I will almost certainly go with Windows Mobile 6.5, as opposed to the very latest 6.5.1, for stability reasons.
I will also probably stick with the same version of HTC's TouchFlo 3D that I have now (2.1). There is a newer version (2.5, rebranded as "HTC Sense") with the new HTC HD2 phone, but the trouble with that is that most of it won't run in landscape mode, for when you slide open the Touch Pro2 keyboard - which is of course because the HD2 doesn't have a slide-out keyboard. In time of course this will be sorted, but whilst I'd like an update, I don't want to be on the bleeding edge either.
I got it from the XDA Developers website mentioned earlier, but this is specific to my model of phone. Sorry I don't know anything about updates for the iPhone
I found some cool (free !) programs to backup my phone. I'm using "PIM Backup" to backup the main stuff (contacts, texts, files etc). Then I found a utility "Back FavPeople Up" to backup the extra info for my Favourites (favourite contacts in TouchFlo 3D).
When I flash my ROM I'll lose everything, so I need to have an easy way to restore all the info back onto my phone, and these look like they'll do the job.
I also discovered "Sashimi" which can even backup specific registry and other settings (e.g. email config), but haven't got my head around how to set it up yet lol.
N97 is good, but the Nokia OS is not the greatest. I have an HTC Touch HD and cannot recommend it highly enough. iPhone? Pthhh! Have to admit I have not checked out this other HTC you mention, but Win Mob combined with their touch flow interface in as smart as they come. In a couple of years I would say Android, but for now stick with Win Mob.
I will have a dig and see what I can come up with Wozza
Wozza, I found this (long !) list of handy hints and tips to get more out of your Touch HD (aka Blackstone) - linky
DJ Wozza Just joined that forum, I used to get all my info from there, but been out of the loop for a while. Got 2 days off so much internet time will be spent on OJC and there

DJ Wozza I used to have a resco pics one on my previous phone, and TCPMP (The Core Pocket media Player) but it doesn't work with 6.1 onwards.Wozza, I don't know if it will help, but in this thread there's a solution for using TCPMP with 6.1 on a TyTNII (Kaiser) with custom ROM (Sleuth), so it looks like someone's found a way for it to work with 6.1.
