Being a Wankle engine.
Even the current RX8 can drink oil like it going out of fashion.

The power plants are great for the size engine though there are pretty quick.

Marsdendean Yeah. Thats one thing that would put me off getting an RX-8. Fantastic looking car, but 1L of oil every 1000 miles & the road tax + fuel would kill me!

Oil not as bad as that on mine Dean, but the road tax is horrendous :crying:

Even the 1st editions were good looking cars and they just continued to improve the look.

Cheers

If they had put a "normal" engine in the weight distribution and general ride height would have had to be very different - therefore possibly ruining the car?

Don't forget that they drink oil because they're meant to, it's not the engines failing that causes it. They just have rpm-activated oil squirters, same as the later Supra TT's and the supercharged Levins.

And as for engine rebuilds, they need them every 130,000 miles when the Mazda service schedule is followed. A rotor check and seal change is only about £1500 so it's not the end of the world.
